Vista Locks up?

I have had my Inspiron 1501 for two weeks. Every single day the screen (out of nowhere) goes black and has a little square that has colorful lines inside of it. The box is always located in a different part of the screen each time. Once I was surfing the net. Another I was typing a word document. I wasn't doing any serious gaming or anything. I think it's Vista. I could be wrong but has anybody else had this problem?

It's VERY annoying!!! I am VERY disappointed!!!

Hi
Upgrade to the new video driver from Dell and see if it will work !
If it does not work call Dell support and talk to them it seems the Dell is
selling a lot of the 1501 that are having problems and most of the problems
are with the video drivers !
here is the link to the new video driver !

Good Luck

after upgrading to the new driver, try removing the "PowerPlay" option in the ATI Catylst driver utility as well. I have heard from some that this also helps to resolve the issue.

I have the Inspiron 1501 Laptop too and I have the same issue.

I do a lot of things to resolve the issue and nothings work.

I think Dell have to do something for us.

My new Inspiron 1720 had the same problem as your's, and after spending quite a few hours on the phone with Dell tech support, they replaced my notebook. I was told that if the notebook is replaced during the 21 day return period, they replace it with a new one. After the return period is up, you may get a refurbished one. This is what the technician told me when I insisted that my replacement be new, not refurbished. Since you've had your's for two weeks, I'd go ahead and contact tech support if you haven't already.

O.k. I have to burn the boat, I removed all drivers and software ( Radeon, cathalisc, drivers, etc.) and configure the video adapter as standar VGA mode. then I got the video drivers only for Xpress 1150 version 7.7, because the 7.8 doesn't have the video driver alone. So I have four days working fine with my 1501, no crash, I think this is other way to try if instalation of DELL recomendations fail and you continue with the same problem.

 So install Dell Drivers first.
