Windows XP: Blue Screen irql_not_less_or_equal

If I try to boot in safe mode it just gives me a black screen with c:\windows\drivers path names
If I try to boot in regular more or 'last known good config' it gives me the blue screen

I purchased the E510 PC 3 days ago and haven't installed any new hardware.

Dell told me to do a system restore, but I don't want to lose my data from the last 3 days.

What are my other options? Thanks
