Windows XP Home Edition

I am not sure this is the right forum but here goes.

I have a Dell Dimension with XP Home edition. We have 2 accounts on the desktop and I have the admin rights. For some reason the other account cannot access Microsoft applications such as word, excel and powerpoint despite them being on the pc and being assessible from my account. How do I resolve

Thanks and I apologise if I am on the wrong forum.

Hi extremelyfedup,

My name is Ananth and I work for work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. I would like to know if you the issue on both the user account, or is it on a particular account. If the issue is with both the user account then I would suggest you to uninstall the Microsoft office using Revo uninstaller (link to download: http://tinyurl.com/785zrhf )and please re-install it back using the Microsoft Office disk if you have the disk, or else you will have to download the Microsoft office from the following web link:

For Office 2010: office.microsoft.com/.../microsoft-office-2010-backup-FX101853122.aspx

For Office 2007: www.microsoft.com/.../default.mspx

If you still have any issues please reply.

Thanks and Regards

Hi, Thanks for coming back to me so quickly.  It is only 1 account that has the problem, so do you have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi extremelyfedup,

Thank you for your response. Please try creating a test user account with the admin rights and check if you can access the Microsoft office. This is to check if the issue is the with the user account which you mentioned, if the test account works fine then we can backup the data of the user account and delete the same. Please follow the web link to create a user account on Win XP: www.fix-your-computer-today.com/user-account.html

NOTE: 1. Please keep the account type as "COMPUTER ADMINISTRATOR"

             2. Do not perform the last 2 steps of the deleting the user account.

Thanks and Regards

On the account that has the issue.

Press [Windows] and to bring up the run box. Then type winword and press enter.

Does word launch or do you get the error message?

Also what version of Office is it? Office 2003, 2007 or 2010?

Hi, I have done what you said but when I type winword and enter a window appears asking me to choose the programme that I want to open the file - the file being WINWORD.EXE.   I assumed it would be word so I click on that and it takes me to a word window but then another wondow appears called File Conversion -Winword with Windows (default) ticked.  I OK this and the word doc appears which has some form of script on it which I don't understand. I can clear this and type but cannot save as the document  is headed WINWORD (read only) - Microsoft Word.

All very confusing.

Okay typing Winword and pressing enter should merely just open word and nothing else.

To help more I need to know what version of Office you have installed.

Can you open the control program then go to uninstall or change a program and look for your Microsoft Office. What does it say?

Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010

Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student

Microsoft Office 2003 Professional

In that case, uninstall Office XP. Go to control panel > add or remove programs > uninstall.

Follow through with the uninstallation wizard.

Next download and install ccleaner. Run the cleaner and then the registery cleaner (select the option to backup the registry).

Reboot the computer and then reinstall Office XP from your CD.
