boot failure with page fault error help
I think I may have some bad memory. I checked the cmos setup and it had only one memory chip listed so I opened up and removed the battery and memory cards then reinstalled them. On boot I entered cmos F2 and memory showed 2 256 cards so I went to maintence and set factory defaults and reset the time then exited and saved. Windows XP started it's boot but 3/4 the way through I got a blue halt screen giving a page fault error and showing a memory location and a shut down.
I swapped memory slots but got a freeze at the dell logo screen. I swapped it back and computer again froze on boot.
At this point I don't know what to do to further trouble shoot. Any help will be appreciated

I think the probability of resulting error or other problems is higher if we choose to use chips that are not Dell.

I think Dell is a little pricey. Memory from Crucial.com and some other sellers are gaunteed to work with Dell systems or they take it back. I don't advocate trying to use cheap RAM but why spend more than you need to?
