dell inspiron 1501 wont go into pc restore to reset to factory settings

my dell inspiron 1501 with xp wont go into pc restore mode when i press ctrl f11, or any other key combination ive found on the web. i found a post talking about the recovery patition so i went into  my computer disk management and found only the basic c drive partition. the hard drive on this computer was replaced about a year ago and im guessing they wiped the recovery when they installed new hard drive or is it located somewhere else. Also i have a dell inspiron 1520 with xp that has 4 partitions listed below. can i copy the recovery one over from the 1520 to the 1501 and make it work that way.

1520 partitions

partition basic FAT healthy (EISA configuration)

partition basic FAT32  healthy (unknown partition)

(C:)  basic partition NTFS healthy (system)

MEDIADIRECT partitiom basic FAT32 healthy (unknown partition)

1501 partitions (the computer in question)

(C:) partition basic NTFS Heathy (system)

Moreover Windows XP is obsolete since April 2014. As you likely don't have a Windows 7 or 8.1 license.

Its recommended to install Windows 10 Technical Preview:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso

Evaluate how it runs and take advantage of cheap promotional prices when its released.

ganarful,

If the hard drive was replaced then there is no PC Restore on the drive. You will need to manually reinstall Windows drivers and software back into the system. You cannot move PC Restore from one computer to another.
Below is a link for manually reinstalling Windows.

Manually Reinstall Windows

I have an addition to my issue, im trying to resolve the laptop from shutting off the display, even the external one shuts off. the comp is still on i just have absolutely no display. ive replaced the mother board so thought it was a software issue possibly. also i should mention that the new mother board didnt come with a processor so i had to use the old one. all my power setting are set to not hibernate or sleep so it should not be doing either of those.  it had not done it all night then this morning i went to open something and it went blank and is only resolved by shutting comp down manually. im leaning towards processor being problem so looking for one now.

If both the internal and external displays went black, this sounds like a system over-temp issue.  It could happen with either the computer ALSO shutting down, or you might still here the fan running and see status LEDs illuminated on the top console (power, HD activity, etc.).  Just a thought.  It may be time to retire this laptop entirely.
