factory restore on vista, won't recognize me as administrator
I am trying to do a factory restore on my Studio 1525 laptop. When i get into the repair menu (repair, restore from older point, memory check, etc) i do not have an option for factory restore, although everything i have read said it should be there. I am guessing that somehow the system isn't recognizing me as administrator, and won't show the option. Is this the problem, and if so, how do i convince the machine that I am the boss? It recognizes me as the only user and accepts my password.

To do a "factory restore", you press F8 at initial boot up and it will access the Dell recovery partition. You do not use any discs and it sounds like you are booting with the Vista Operating System DVD.
HERE is the Dell procedure on doing a restore.

either way, i do not get factory restore option. again, i do not think it recognizes me as having administrator privileges. normally, that would be a smart move by the OS. but not for this.

i would assume it would still work off the original vista disc, but i still do not get a factory restore option in the overall repair option menu.

Are you sure you've not deleted that function of the restore utility?
