Yes....
I could not get the following installed:
Notebook System Software
Sigmatel Audio drivers

Some reported success with the drivers. Unfortunately I could not get any of them working, even the Vostro drivers failed me. I'm stuck with Vista Home Premium for now. Search the forum and you'll find links to threads for drivers used.

I had no issues with inspiron 1520 laptop, but I had to use a few simple workarounds.

1) SP2 must be slipstreamed. -- if you don't know what it means, google it.
2) BIOS SATA operation must be configured for SATA devices to emulate ATA.
3) the bluetooth drivers were a bit picky, but after a second install, the device was recognized and worked fine.

Installing Windows XP on Dell Inspiron 1520
Done on 13.09.2007... It works well!

#########################################
During the entire process DO NOT try other "solutions" to  solve the YELLOW SIGNS that you could see if you open  Device Manager!
JUST INSTALL DRIVERS AS SHOWN BELLOW!
#########################################

STEP 1.
a) As long as you still have a functional system, download all drivers from the links bellow (you will need broadband!).
b) Turn-on the wireless and bluetooth hardware (switch on the upper-left side of the notebook). If you don't, the driver for wireless card can't be correctly installed (see step 4, point 7 bellow).

STEP 2.
Restart -> press F2 -> BIOS:
Onboard Devices -> Flash Cache Module -> Set Off
Onboard Devices -> SATA Operation -> Set ATA

#########################################
WARNING! Without this settings WinXP will not detect your HDD.
#########################################

STEP 3.
Install WinXP (+ SP2) from your CD.

STEP 4.
Install XP Drivers, following this sequence:
 1. R153997 Intel Mobile Chipset (06-26-2007)
