Register an image from a device
Register an image from a device
Hello,
I plan to customize a client, register that image in WDM, then redistribute it to other clients. So I pushed an image to a few clients using WDM 4.8 then I verified that I could register that off-the shelf image from a client into WDM. Using WDM's Device Manager, I right clicked the device and used the "Get Device Image" option from the pulldown. I was able to register the device's off-the-shelf image in WDM with no problem.
Next I customized a client by uninstalling some programs (Adobe Flash Player, Citrix Presentation Server Client, TightVNC, and VMWare VDM client) and applying QFE's. WDM's Device Manager can still see the customized device, but when right click on it, the pulldown does not contain a "Get Device Image" option.
Similarly, if I use Package Manager's New > Package > Register an image from a device, the customized device does not appear in the device list. Is one of the programs I uninstalled needed? Did one of the QFE's wipe out something? Why can't WDM pull an image from my customized device?

If you follow Microsoft's recommended guidelines for WDM drivers, you won't give your device object a name
