Should I Upgrade CPU ??? XPS 8910

I have a xps 8910 with a i5 6400 with a gtx 1070. I was wondering if i could upgrade the cpu at all due to bottleneck issues (ran test bottleneck at 30%). I would like a i7 or a newer i5. I just don't know if it will be compatible. If you can give any recommendations that would be great. Thanks.

Exactly what "bottleneck" test did you run, and did it specify what/where the bottleneck is?

How much RAM is in this system?

Do you have a HDD or an SSD?

You are likely going to be limited to another 6th Gen CPU like the 6th Gen i5 6400 you have now because of the chipset on this motherboard....

Search this forum to see what CPU upgrades others have tried in the XPS 8910.

And one more thingy...

You might want to update BIOS to the latest version, if you don't already have it, before swapping in any new CPU, in case Dell added support for additional 6th Gen CPUs, in one of the newer BIOS versions. You can go directly from the one you have to the latest.

NOTE: There's always a risk a BIOS update bricks your motherboard, so make sure you read and follow the instructions carefully. Do not let SupportAssist or Dell Update manage the update for you. Download the file manually to your desktop and follow the instructions. And you do this entirely at your own risk because Dell won't replace the motherboard for you if BIOS damages your motherboard and the PC's warranty has expired.
