XPS 8500, video card, power supply, upgrades

Installed a GTX 1660 TI in my XPS 8500 i7 3770.  It will require a newer power supply with a 6 pin connector to power the video card. Stock PS only has 4 Pin. But once installed, it works perfectly! Very good card and system upgrade for this PC. Getting HIGH FPS!

what PSU, watts?

what card exactly makers (10+) and 25 sub models made, even fan counts and DDR ram sizes small to huge.

the card needs 120watts all by itself.

does the card run FURMARK  and not crash,

make sure the card has lots of cool are or they can overheat, cooling matters.

run gpu-z to see how hot it gets, full tilt.?  that be like first thing once, booted.

Hi Clo999,

Just curious, what kind of new power supply did you get and does it require any modification to fit with the XPS 8500 case? Would i7-3770 be ok to pair with a RTX 2080ti GPU? Thanks!

Recommended units have specific Dimensions and 150W combined power for the 3.3v/5v rails. All rails count so units with 90 to 130w combined are not up to spec.

If you have non dell video card and UEFI class 2.3.1 bios secure boot will need to be off.  Older units will need updated bios to work with newer cards.

BARE MINIMUM recommended is EVGA 700BR or 700B1   B2 BQ G2 etc from the same vendor are NOT recommended.

Power supplies with a single spec of watts is not recommended.  $29 units that say they are 500W or more and EPS12v  80 percent efficient are usually fake and will fry everything including ram, hard drive, cpu etc.

Choosing a cheap under spec power supply is a fast way to destroy everything permanently.  Choosing based on price and watts is a very bad idea.

Name Brand Units purchased from AMAZON or Retail that have actual UL Safety rating, Over voltage and over current protection that are $80 to $150 range are usually not fakes.
