Dell XPS 13 9360- Dual external monitors at different resolutions (2560 x 1080 and 1920 x 1080)

Hello,

After scouring over this community for any similar posts/situations I find myself here asking for help as if it's already been stated it very will may have just gone over my head.

I have a Dell XPS 9360 with a single external monitor: 34" Ultrawide Monitor Model 34UM61-P (https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34UM61-P-ultrawide-monitor) which has an aspect ratio of 21:9 and if it is the only external monitor will run at a resolution of 2560 x 1080.

I have this connected via a USB C to Dual HDMI adapter using an HDMI cable to the ultrawide monitor. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QKVY23Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) With a single external monitor set up, my native resolution on the built in monitor is defaulted at 1920 x 1080.

When I plug in a second monitor Samsung 32" Curved Model C32R502FHN (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-CR50-Curved-Monitor/dp/B08CXD9TFZ ) & disable the built in display, both of my monitors resolutions are capped at 1920 x 1080.

If a single external display with resolution of 2560 x 1080 and the built in monitor can be utilized at 1920 x 1080 simultaneously, I would have thought it would have worked with a 2nd external monitor... Is there something i'm missing here? Would I only be able to use the 2560 x 1080 with another monitor that has the same resolution?

Thank you in advance for your time and help! I think I've spent the past week looking for answers to my predicament.

After a little more tinkering around, I figured out that if I set my battery settings to do nothing when I close the laptop. Close my laptop and then connect my 2nd external curved monitor it appears to allow my ultrawide to operate at 2560 x 1080.

@Dilemmallama  What you're trying to do should be possible.  Windows can definitely run 3 independent displays at 3 different resolutions simultaneously.  The USB-C to Dual HDMI adapter you have is designed to allow you to run independent displays on a PC (i.e. not mirrored displays), and assuming you're using the standard 60 Hz refresh rate, it would have enough bandwidth to run 2560x1080 and 1920x1080 external displays simultaneously with both connected through that adapter.  Have you tried using Intel HD Graphics Control Panel (or Command Center, depending on driver version) just to see if that makes a difference compared to using Windows Display Settings?  Make sure to set all displays to Extend mode first, so that each display is showing unique content, before you adjust resolutions.

@jphughan Thank you for the prompt response. Yes I have tried to manage the display settings via both suggested options : Intel HD Graphics Control Panel and Windows Display Settings, both to no avail on getting past an higher resolution of 1920 x 1080 both at 60Hz and 59Hz. The moment I hook up the second external monitor, all monitors resolutions only show up to 1920 x 1080. I have also checked to make sure I am up to date on all drivers as it pertains to the graphics card as well. Is there anything else I can try?

@Dilemmallama  Interesting find.  Not sure why that makes a difference since with the proper hardware, the XPS 13 9360 can run dual 4K 60 Hz external displays and its built-in display all simultaneously, but I'm glad you found a way to get your displays running as desired!
