XPS 9560 IRST update causing "Boot Twice" conflict with SK Hynix PC300 SSD!!!
To all Community members and Dell representatives.
Has Dell found a solution for the incompatible BIOS, and or IRST update effecting the SK Hynix PC300???
Many people are reporting that updating the IRST and or BIOS is causing the need for a forced shutdown during the first boot attempt then a second attempt to load the OS!!!
Meaning on the first boot attempt the system just hangs at the Dell logo.
They need to hold the power button down to turn the system off.
Then power-on again to then load the OS.
I have found that the updates seem to be only effecting the SK Hynix PC300.
Is Dell aware of this and are they working on a solution???
Best regards,
U2

I have the exact same problem (introduced after doing a Dell Update of my BIOS on my XPS 9560) that I describe here: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/After-Dell-Update-XPS-15-9560-freezes-at-Dell-logo-on-start-up/m-p/7366349. I have the same SSD (SK Hynix PC300) described in this thread as well (https://imgur.com/G5Q5E4K). This is a software problem introduced by Dell - it is not a hardware problem. Dell - are you aware of this issue and will you provide us with a solution? Thanks for all of your detective work @U2CAMEB4ME!

I have the same problem discribed above where the computor freezes at the Dell screen and requires a powerdown and then reboot to start the computor. This problem occured after Dell did an update to the BIOs of my XPS 15 9560. My SSD is a PC300 NVMe SK hy. Dell please provide a solution to the problem created to my BIOs by your update. Thanks to all that have contributed to finding a solution to this problem

Checked my XPS 15 9560 device manager and the drive for my computer lists SSD NVMe PC300 NVMe SK hy and says the device is working properly. As I stated in my post to Dell XPS 15 (9560) freezes at Dell logo on start-up, my computer just started this problem recently and I have been powering off then on again to get it to boot Windows 10. Since I did a system restore to 8/29/2019, it has been booting to Windows on first power up. I am not good navigating computer systems, and I haven't a clue as to what is going on, but hope Dell is working on a fix to the problem. Thanks to all the tech people out there sharing! good on ya

I am having the same problem as everyone else. Freezing at Dell logo after startup. I am really frustrated that this is happening right after my warranty runs out. I paid a lot of money for what I thought was a good pc. If this isn't fixed there is no way I will be buying any Dell products in the future, and I'll be doing my best to recommend others done either. Very annoyed.

Note to all with this problem.
Dell is aware of this conflict and is said to be working on a solution.
For now they have removed IRST version 17.5.0.1017.
Could be this is their solution???
If you do have this problem please rollback to this version of IRST.

I spoke with a Dell Support Team yesterday and they are aware of the IRST fix however, they had me do something else that fixed the problem. Obviously ,you can downgrade the IRST driver as this appears to fix. However, here is what Dell did that worked for me. In Power Settings -> Advanced Settings set Hard Disk > Turn off Hard disk = 0 (never) for both battery and plugged in. Result = in morning, open lid, laptop wakes, logged in.
For what it is worth the IRST BIOS update triggered this for the xps 9560 series but, Dell is claiming this issue has been around for other systems since the Win 10 1903 update. They said that after next window update to check the Hard disk settings and set back if needed. However, I'm not seeing any performance or issue with HD set to 0 so far.

@citizen K dell
That's correct it was a conflict with many other systems and not just Dell.
If you remember many systems would not upgrade to W10 1903 because of the version of IRST that was installed on their systems.
There were workarounds in hopes that the next W10 upgrade would resolve the problem.
The upgraded version of IRST that Dell/Intel released 17.5.0.1017 that has since been removed again had a conflict with W10 1903.
Just like before there are workarounds in hopes that the next W10 upgrade will resolve the problem.
It just seem that every time Intel releases an update it fixes problems and causes new ones.
It is just something we will just have to learn to live with I guess.

Just read the post about the new IRST driver version 17.5.0.1017 causing conflict with the SK Hynix PC300 and the suggestion to roll back to the 15.7.5.1025, A03 version. I checked my device manager, storage controller to see what driver was installed and I see my computer has Intel version 15.7.5.1025 dated 8/10/2017 listed. I see in my update history that Windows 10 version 1903 was installed 8/9/2019. After reading one post saying Dell is aware of the booting issue also on other systems beside XPS 9560 since the Windows update, and I have the older IRST version, that there is an added issue involved. If a Windows update fix or a Dell solution, it can't come soon enough. This all to me is like an Alien 51 takeover!....good on ya again for all the help

Hello,
I have had this issue for the last 3 weeks on my XPS 15 9560.
All the details are on the discussion I opened: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-15-9560-needs-to-be-powered-on-twice-gets-stuck-on-Dell-boot/m-p/7376860#M34789
Shout out to U2CAMEB4ME for helping find a solution. I hope it's resolved soon.

I checked my HD and it is a ST500LM0 21-1KJ152 combo drive. I'm still having the same double boot issue as you guys.

Welcome to the Dell Community @RhaseW
Go to "Settings"
Then to "System"
Then on the left hand side click on "Power & Sleep"
Then on the right hand side click on "Additional Power Settings"
Then on the left hand side click on "Choose what the Power Buttons do"
Then click on "Change settings that are currently available"
Then un-check "Turn on fast startup" then "Save Changes" and reboot.
Best regards,

Signed up on the forum just to say thank you for the IRST rollback suggestion. I had been trying to fix this for months and it was driving me nuts. Prior version rollback fixed my inability to recover from hibernate. Thank you!

Hi @U2CAMEB4ME
Do you know if Dell has ever posted a solution to this? Or is rolling back the IRST still the best option ?
