Confused by Avamar 7.1 for VMware user guide
Hi,
We're trying to add our two vCenters into Avamar so we can start using image backups for our VMware guests.
Right now we have them both being backed up using the Avamar Windows clients (normal "guest level" clients). The guide says that to add them as vCenter hosts I have to retire the clients, add them into Avamar as vCenter hosts, then reinvite the vCenters as guests again. How is that possible, when Avamar doesn't allow two clients with the same name? I would rather not have to delete the client (thus deleting all our backups) and add it again. The guide doesn't say you have to have duplicate names turned on.
If I do change the flag in mc-server.xml to allow duplicate names, does that mean I can leave the current guest clients alone and add the vCenters into Avamar without changing anything else? Will I then be able to use the old guest backups (in the event of a disaster) and continue backing the vCenters up as guests?
I want to end up with the vCenters being backed up as normal clients while supporting image backup for the guest VMs that are managed by the vCenters.
Thanks.
