Is there a way to purge McAfee from my XPS?  I uninstalled it & loaded up the new one, Eset's Smart Security (ESS) which has NOD 32.  But in Security Centre it says both the new one & McAfee is ruuning (firewall, Antivirus, AntiSpam etc...).  The McAfee program folders are gone but somthing is still resident.

I could try reinstalling from the recovery partition but wouln't that reinstall McAfee?

Steps I took:-

1. Downloaded McAfee's uninstall utility
2. disconnect from the net
3. uninstalled McAfee via control panel
4. rebooted
5. Ran McAfee's utility (as admin)
6. turned off windows firewall & defender services & startups in MSconfig
7. rebooted
8. installed ESS
9. rebooted & reconnected with the net
10. BSoD'ed (probably a clash with McA) & rebooted
11. updated ESS

I'm being haunted by the vengeful ghost of McAfee!!!  Or it's done a turncoat and joined the league of viruses.

Has anyone managed to exorcise this wilful program?
