I have been using an Inspiron 8200 (1.7 GHz, 512MB, nVidia GeForce4 440 Go 64MB, 15" SXGA etc etc) for two years, and it has never given me any problem. Now some days back it started showing some small flickering horizontal bars (that keep moving). I've reinstalled drivers, put in latest bios, but to no benefit. The moment the laptop starts, I can see those bars. Also, in windows, it says that some nvidia's application falied or something. It shows the same bars in Solaris too (it obviously would)

 

I had set the display to an external monitor and there also I saw the same bars. So I am assuming that everything else is okay (including the LCD), just the display card has gone nuts.

 

So is the display card wasted? So what are my options here? Is there anyway I can repair the thing without getting a new card?

 

I have an Inspiron 9100 also and it basically serves all my purposes. So I am okay with selling the 8200 too, but I don't think anyone will buy it till I sort out the video problem. I see that Dell doesn't sell 8200's display cards. On ebay also I couldn't find much about the cards. Help !
