I have an almost five-year-old Latitude E5400, out of warranty, that I suspect has a hardware problem. Randomly, CPUs pin 100% and system slows to a crawl.

I've been running the pre-boot system assessment for maybe an hour, it's stuck on the memory test, shows only 5% complete. Is that a sign that something's wrong?
