Can't access shared files- map network drive problem??

I am trying to use XP's networking feature, but having a problem.

Am using a DLink wireless router and my wireless networking seems to be working as I have no problem accessing the internet through my laptops wireless card.

The way I am attempting to access shared files on my desktop Is by

My Computer >Tools>Map Network Drive.

When the Map Network Drive window opens it instructs "to specify the drive and folder you want to connect to"

The upper window has 'z'  drive as a default and the lower window is blank with a browse option.

I used the browse button and find a Microsoft Windows Network icon. Clicking that icon reveals a "HOMENET" icon (which is the name of my home network)

Clicking on the HOMENET icon has no effect on opening or connecting to my home network

Any help with this frustrating problem is really appreciated!
