Need help to retreive data from bad disk

I have a Dell Dimension 2350 Desktop with a NTFS Blue Screen error code ending 024. I also have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop which works fine.

I got some advice from a computer engineer who suggested I remove the bad H Disk from the Dell 2350 and install it as a slave on on the 3000. (to be fair I didn't tell him what the actual Dell models were) . I've taken the disk out from the 2350 but it doesn't appear i have a spare slot for the disk in the 3000.

All I actually want to do is copy some files from the old disk onto my 3000 disk so as not to lose them, then straight away remove the suspect disk and will put it back into the Dell 2350, try to reformat. If it doesn't work[disk is 7 years old] i will get a new disk for that machine.

As I do not have a spare slot or an IDE cable that will allow me to hitch up my bad disk as a slave is there another simple way to do this. i mean can I just use the floppy cable or CD drive cable temporarily for the bad disk to hitch it up as a slave,. Will it run OK if i do not secure it as i do not have a bracket and how would i have to alter the BIOS to allow it to act as a slave?
