I have a SM-348B drive with T503 fw and I can't write my cd at 48x but max at 40x

I tried with differents kind of cd (all good vendor like TDK) and all are certified Ultra High Speed, up to 48x , but when I put them into my drive, the max speed that I can select is 40x... WHY???
