The auto rotation on my 5175 stops working.
If I turn it off and then on, the auto rotation works for a short while but then stops.
If I run a program that displays sensor data, the auto rotation works but stops if that program is not running.
The screen brightness also changes from whatever you set it to to 40%.
I've tried to see if these worked in a restored state but the problems still persist.
Updating to the latest drivers and Windows 10 version doesn't fix things.
"Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework" is a section with 8 entries in "Device Manager".
I went through each entry and uninstalled the driver (and deleted the driver, if that was an option).
The list reappears on reboot but it seems it might have fixed the brightness and the auto rotation issues.
The auto rotation and brightness problems occur after installing
Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal framework 8.2.10900.330
which is listed as the latest version.
Going through "Device Manager" to uninstall and delete the driver from each of the entries and then rebooting causes the system to use this version:
Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal framework 8.1.10605.221
Which, presumably, is the version the system came with.

Also check these settings, Control Panel> Display> Change Display Settings ensure that the "Allow the screen to auto-rotate" is selected.

That's right. You will need to stick to version 8.1.10605.221 to maintain control of the brightness settings. I originally used the DPTF from Windows Update as an alternative to 8.2.10900.330 but that would cause various power and thermal management errors on the 5175. So just stick to 8.1.10605.221 until they fix it.
Sad thing is, I only had to do a factory reset, and install drivers one by one to find a solution to this (sarcasm intended). It's unbelievable that Dell does not have a solution cataloged for this issue as I assume many will be using version 8.2.10900.330 with the associated issues.

Your description of the fix was a bit thin on details but was enough to go on. I posted more details to make it easier for other people with the problem to fix it.
I spent a fair amount of effort trying to fix the problem (including a reset) and the machine was scheduled for another trip back to Dell.
More information.
If you are missing "Sensors" in "Device Manage", you need to install the drivers for that before updating/changing the "Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework" driver.
You can pick the driver (and select an older version) through the "Find it myself" tab on the "Drivers & downloads" page.

After the last BIOS/Firmware update, the auto-rotation button became unavailable. Now everything (BIOS, Firmware, drivers, Windows Update) is new. Today I ran Dell SupportAssit and WindowsUpdate.

For anyone looking for a solution to at least the screen brightness setting being stuck at/defaulting to 40%. You need to uninstall Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework and then you will gain back control of your screen brightness
