Aurora 15 Info Leaked

It appears the R15 should release shortly. It will now include a 240mm AIO, 13th Gen Intel CPU's along with Nvidia's 4xxx series GPU's. The side clear glass is now smaller with vents on the lower half of the glass area. The solid panel now has vents to pull in air. The rest of the system is should still be pretty much the same.

What computer would a true enthusiast like yourself recommend?

Considering current hardware prices, if you have the skills for it, put one together with retail components.

This way you can pick what you like, and have the functionality of an enthusiast system if you are willing to part with the cash for it.

Well, I'd say not a R13.  Until the 13xxx CPU's and the 4xxx GPU's are available, we won't know for 100% sure if the R13 can be upgraded to either of them.  However, I'm on the "not gonna happen" camp.  I will for sure try it out though.

Do keep us posted. Always interested in the user experience. I am hoping the new machine(s) will be even more upgradable than the current generation.

Yeah, that's my take as well. However I will be 64 later this month and my eyesight is not as good as it used to be, hence the reason why prebuilts are now something I consider over building my own which I have done since the early 90's.

Personally the best bang for the buck prebuilt that offer aesthetics, functionality and provide a quality build has to go to the HP Omen series and the 45L in particular. The 45L uses what HP calls the Cryo-Chamber where they place a 360mm AIO on top of the all aluminum case which also doubles as a handle to lift the computer.

The case is sold separately but the build uses standardized parts for HP so you can use any type of motherboard ITX all the way up to ATX. It accepts full length GPU's. The RGB controller is a standard part so you can use it with any mobo that supports RGB.

"The R15 will be no different. It will be locked to the generation of CPU's and GPU's it is sold with."

And quite honestly, that is to be expected, hence the R9/10/11/12/13/14/15. Each variant offers the next generation CPU/GPU combination. It's the same methodology as the PlayStation and XBOX brand. That's why I pointed to the HP Omen line. You can use the case to upgrade with different parts. I would not be surprised if you can drop a better, next gen CPU in the motherboard as long it is within the same family of CPU's. At one point HP was like Dell and have switched gears to allow for more user customization to set itself apart from the other pre-built brands.

We already know. No Alienware desktop has been upgradable for a long time since Dell took over. The R13 is locked to the generation of CPU's and GPU's it was supplied with as with ever other R model. Dell love to advertise there Alienware range as fully upgradable, then send everyone to the spec sheets 4 pages down in the advertising when called out for it.

The R15 will be no different. It will be locked to the generation of CPU's and GPU's it is sold with.

A Dell built Alienware PC is now struggling to cope with the latest technology and has done for some time.  The R13 was not the answer as they used an ancient metal box and shoved some fancy plastic around it.

The R15 will be no different. They may cut holes in the plastic and add a 240MM radiator but that will be paid for by cutting back on other areas.

That is true, but I don't think there's space in an R13 style case to put a liquid cooler, unless they use a 240 MM on top for the CPU and a 120 MM in the freed up space for the GPU.

That would be a very nice combination and perform well, but would also increase the cost significantly.

I was looking at an unboxing video of the 4090. I don't think it will fit in any Alienware case, unless the card is custom made to fit.

There's a reason why it is so massive, so I am thinking you are going to get a lot of heat output when combining this with a Raptor lake or R7000 CPU...

Size comparison between generations of Nvidia cards

You will need around 32 CM length clearance to install it, and a 3 slot space. That is based on the 3090 Strix measurements and the comparison in that video.

So if you have an R13 I guess you can measure. I don't think it is going to fit unless they made it smaller, in which case you might see power limits put in place to avoid thermal issues.

The reason the RTX 4090 is so massive is the heat pipe and fin array for air cooling. The PCB itself is actually quite small, so putting the graphics card on water could be a possible solution.

More cooling options are available if you can think outside the box

Absolutely. But OEM's are going to have a though time properly cooling a 4090 and a raptor/Ryzen combination since they have a budget constraint. Often regulatory constraints also.

It's going to be interesting to see the reviews on OEM systems.
