Received your system?

Due to the amount of delays AW is having, I thought it would be a good idea to kind of track the build progress of these systems, or at least have a guess.

Please post your order date, system type (just the model), and your shipping date.

Thank you!

I hope this link is allowed, if not go to Greatest Freakout Ever on You Tube.    I think this could be all of the Dell customers that have had their systems delayed over and over and over and over....... yeah, you get the point.

If you go through the 40 pages (which I did) youll see that in the US by law Dell is required to get your authorization after 30 days from the day you placed the order.

hope this helps!

Hey everybody -

I will be traveling out of the country on business leaving March 4th. I will not have access to email until March 8th, at which time that will be limited. I will be in a lot of meetings and trainings thru to March 20th.

Please understand that there will be a delay in any response asked of me. Please pass the word around so everyone knows I am NOT ignoring them.

Ciao!

Lisa

@augfarr1

Checking your PC configuration, it appears that the only thing we had in common besides the processor was the TV tuner card.  Lisa G. had told me that tuner card was noted as a parts delay on 2-19-10 for my PC but is not a delay anymore.  I ordered on 1-27 and just got my 4th delay of 3-11 as well.  Checked my status but stiil only IN PRODUCTION online and BEING PROCESSED on phone.

IC52:

I received my replacement system yesterday.  I never had an EDD on the Dell site.  I called the AW order status number at 800-254-3692 to keep somewhat up to date.  Mind you the EDD did change a few times, but I expected it.

ALL:

MY EXPERIENCE WITH DELL THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS WAS EXCEPTIONAL.

On 2/2 my 710 H2C crashed.  I contacted support and we walked though a number of troubleshooting steps.  The rep was professional, patient, and pleasant.  We worked together to resolve the problem, but in the end it was decided that I would get a replacement system.  The rep clearly let me know that the process was going to take some time..."was that OK?"  I told him that I could use my old XPS for a short while to take care of the things that I HAD to do online.  (I ended up buying a DELL notebook at Walmart though....Had some difficulties after attempting to upgrade the BIOS per the instructions provided with the computer.  The upgrade was unsuccessful and afterwards the computer would crash when the transformer was connected....contacted support....The Rep was once again excellent and even worked overtime to help me out.  We did a complete system restore and he sat there through the entire boring process.  He did at one point request that I send the computer back to Dell for repair, but I did not want that as this was my backup to the crashed 710 and it would charge OK, it just would not work when the computer was on and the transformer was plugged into it.  We agreed that I would continue to try to fix the problem on my own and if I couldn't, we would do the return thing at a good time for me.  He scheduled a call back and DID CALL BACK at the scheduled time.  I don't know why, but in desperation I attempted the BIOS upgrade again...It was unsuccessful, but after it failed, the computer was once again working correctly....with the transformer plugged in.....mmmmmmm.....all is now well with the notebook).

End of digression..back to the replacement of my 710:

On 2/12 I was called TWICE to let me know that the specs for a new system have been approved, and they wanted to know if the replacement system was OK with me.  I was busy at work, so I missed the calls.  In the messages from the rep, he told me that I could go online and check out the specs.  I did so, and found that I had an AW Aurora with exceptional specs "In Production."  I sent a response to the email that I received with my support request stating that I was sorry that I missed the calls, and that I was happy with the specs of the replacement system (BOY WAS I!!!!....GIGGLE...GIGGLE).  I believe my original estimated ship date from the AW automated order status number was 2/25.  After reviewing the posts here, I did not expect that by any means.  I checked the status line periodically, and the shipped date changed a number of times.  Once stating that my ship date would be 3/25 if I remember correctly.  Sometimes there was no ship date at all just the "Build Stage" message.  I remained patient as the rep stated from the beginning that the process was going to take a long time.  BAM...the next thing you know I have a shipped status with an EDD of  3/2.  Ouch....I am flying to Florida on 2/28 for personal business that can't be postponed and I have to drive a car, 2 dogs and a cat back from central Florida to upstate NY after my sister and I finish packing and coordinating the movement of some furniture with a moving company.  The movers were not supposed to do the pick up until 3/3...after which we were gong to head back to NY, which means we arrive no earlier than the evening of 3/4 if all goes well.  So now I have to arrange for someone to accept the delivery, or I have to work with FEDEX to hold it until I return.  I call FEDEX....they say that they MUST make one attempt at delivery at the address specified.  Just my luck.  I picture FEDEX attempting 3 deliveries and returning the system to DELL if I can't arrange for someone to accept the delivery.  On 3/2 the mover calls and asks if they can finish the final packing and complete the load on that day instead of 3/3. Both my Sister and I want to get home anyway, so "SURE!!!"   We finish up and depart central Florida at about 7pm on 3/2 and arrive at home at 7pm on 3/3.  I get home and only have one of those famous and wonderful FEDEX stickers on my back door window (they were one day late on my overnight delivery).  NICE!!!!  Yesterday...The Aurora arrives!!!!  It is working wonderfully!!!!

I understand all the frustration that folks are having here.  I too have some difficulty understanding why it takes so long to do a computer build, and in my case, it was a replacement system, so I was not shelling out additional big bucks for a system (I had already done that when I purchased the 710 H2C).  But I also want to state that I have been buying Dell's for MANY years.  My last two purchases were refurbished machines.  Why?...because DELL stands by their products.  I know that even if I buy a refurbished machine, if I have problems DELL will make it right.  I had an early problem with the 710, and DELL replaced the mother board.  And I don't believe any of the problems I have had could not have happened with computers from other manufacturers.  I had the 710 for 3 years.  About the time (for me) to upgrade anyway.  Now I don't have too.  They stood by their product, and took care of me.  I will remain loyal to DELL.

I also want to mention that all of my CSR's were from India.  I treated them with respect and they did the same with me.  Sure at times I had to say "excuse me, could you repeat that?" but the service that each one of them provided was excellent.  I am an American.  I was in the Navy for over 20 years and spent some time in foreign countries and let me tell you....Americans are arrogant.  Many of us expect that everyone should be like us.  The American economy is going global.  Deal with it!!!  Treat others with the respect you would expect if you were in their shoes...Just trying to do a good job for you.  I have NEVER had any problem with any CSR from DELL.  I also agree with Lisa G. regarding the harrassing of CSR'S about ship dates etc.  Son of a gun....The poor guy or gal at the the other end of the line....JUST DOESN'T KNOW WHY.  The problem is with the manufacturing system not the CSR.  Think about it....If the CSR knew....they would happily tell you and move on to another call.  The problem appears to be at manufacturing not support.  I'm sure the CSR's are livid with manufacturing and wish they could just transfer the call to them....but they can't

I am confident that folks lide Lisa G. are working on the problem.

Hang in there.  Hope you all get your systems on Monday.  If not, be aware that after it arrives, you will be very happy and DELL will stand by it and fully support it.

Oh and my comments regarding the treatment of DELL CSR's from India was general...Not a response to IC52 who I am sure is a fine individual who just wants his system.  Hang in there IC52!!!!!

Congrats on getting your system M5xjr.

I just received my replacement system today, an Area 51 to replace an Area 51 ALX that was having video card issues. Ordered on Feb 19 and I got it this morning and I have to admit, opening that box felt like christmas morning...lol. After giving it time to warm up, I set it up only to discover that there was nothing installed...no windows no nothing. I played around with it for a while but I think I am going to give my sales rep a call monday to see what can be done.

Hey m5xjr:

Thanks for your reply. When I joined this community just a couple of days ago and followed this thread, my first thought was: OMG, if I ever read this before buying a computer, I swear I'd never buy this computer from Dell. When I read that some people have had 3, and more delays on their orders, and at that time I had my first one, I thought I'd get my computer on Christmas Eve.

But then, I sent a message to Lisa, and she responded in less than 15 minutes, apologizing for not helping me because she only deals with US customers (I'm in Canada), but I don't know if she pulled some strings or not, but the next day when I checked my order, I saw the magic word: Shipped. It is scheduled to be delivered next Wednesday (Hooray!).

Regarding the CSRs, I have no complains about them; they are always gentle and well-mannered, and delays are not their fault; but I do believe that Dell has to tune up their manufacturing system just to keep up with their marketing department. You see a lot of advertising, flyers, good deals, great financing, and configuration flexibility, so they get a lot of orders every day, but the manufacturing process is well behind.

Lesson learned: Next time (if I am reasonably happy with my system), I'll take a more relaxed approach, knowing how Dell works; by then, I hope they may set more realistic delivery dates.

It's ok M5xjr, but thanks for the concern. The reason I didn't phone them when I discovered their error was I didn't want to send it back.

I managed to install windows and all the software from the utility disk. The only thing that bothers me a bit is on start up. I managed to download some desktop wallpaper and changed my icon to an alienware one.

I might phone tech support to see if they can get me that boot or startup screen...the black one with the red symbols that says alienware.

I hope everything will be straightened out by the end of the weekend.
