Slow BIOS booting
I have the following USB devices attached:
- Belkin n52te
- Logitech Driving Force Pro
- Logitech G9
- TactX keyboard
When starting from a cold boot, it takes 59 seconds to get through the BIOS to the boot menu (F12).
From that point, Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium takes 1:44 to get to the login screen.
This seems like a very long time. Almost 3 minutes total from cold boot.
I listed the USB devices in case one of these is causing extra delay. It takes 45 seconds from cold boot for the Driving Force Pro wheel to self-calibrate.
Is this normal, even with 2x 10K rpm drives in RAID 0?
Is there a way to turn off "memory testing" or anything else that is causing extra time? I've tried hitting ESC during the BIOS to skip any memory test, but it doesn't change. I also turned off my RAID OptionRom to shave a couple of seconds.

The BIOS actually takes a shockingly long time to POST. I reckon the DELL Poweredge 2950's with dual processors and mulitple SCSI RAID arrays that I use at work boot faster than my Aurora.

We will be releasing a Bios Update to address the long boot times maybe before March.

Is everyone talking about the part with the Alien head part? Right before the window screen?
Sorry this is my first Alienware and I thought it is odd how long it takes to boot up, I bought my system with the 256bg ssd and always though it shouldn't take long to boot.

Yes, this is the BIOS posting time. If you want to measure how fast your OS boots on your SSD, you can do something like press F12 to get the boot menu, then select your SSD drive and start timing it then.
You have to wait 30 seconds or so before you can press F12, just hit it a few times until it highlights.
Just curious, is that the Samsung SSD?

Hey guys. I guess I am not the only one with this issue. lol.
I get about the same boot times you guys get. My specs are i7 975, 6GB 1333MHz, 120GB OCZ Vertex Turbo SSD, Dual 5870's, 2x 750GB RAID 0.
Thanks Chris for looking into solving this issue. Also, I am having some sleep issues like the others here mentioned. Sometimes it works and wakes up on its own without any sleep timers enabled as well. Sleep also does not work at all when using other memory with XMP setting enabled for some reason. Is anyone else having those issues as well as the long booting times?

In bios..it takes about 45 seconds....once window starts it takes like 5 secs to the login screen. Once i login takes 2 seconds to my desktop.

The bios they are testing has decreased boot time by 25%. When it's ready, they will release it.

Do you know where I can get a hold of the older bios for the Auroral ALX? I have A01 and A04 but I would like to try A02 and A03 as well to see if they work better do diminish the booting time.
Thanks a lot Chris!
