No it didn't even try and i didn't see the prompt. The list is: "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio" , "High Definition Audio Device" , "Intel(R) Display Audio" , "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" , "NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible)  (WDM)"

There it is ... just called "High Definition Audio Device". Click on that and it should say it's working properly.

No other error-ed or complaining device in Device Manager, right?

In Control Panel/Sound ... set that exact one as "Default Device" for PlayBack and Record. Config and Test.

What kind of headset?

If analog (1/8" plugs) , try in back (direct to motherboard) ports.

Try the ports in the back, also unplug any other devices attached to the machine that aren't 100% needed.

I have a px3 that is a USB plugin. When I had a 3.5 mm mic I tried front and back and both had static

The Turtle Beach PX3 Wireless Headset is only a true "USB Headset" when run in:

Wireless Mode (switch Transmitter to PC/Mac mode: presets are deactivated)

In true USB mode (almost always better than analog), you are using the "sound card" in the headset. The x51 sound card isn't even being used ... just usb ports.

Since it's wireless, my guess would be the static is from Wireless Interference or other EMI .

You might want to try it on another machine or console or talk to TB. Notice they give you a way to optionally hard-wire it (but don't supply the cable). The manual says the "Charging Cable" they supply doesn't have the data lines hooked up.

Ya, it's probably a broken x51-r2 (you are not the first to complain of this kind of problem) but as long as you are testing with wireless PX3, Dell is always going to blame "wireless EMI".

To troubleshoot this, I suggest you SIMPLIFY you config. If that works, move forward.

Get yourself a simple ANALOG headset that is tested (on another computer) that plays and records with no static.

Plug it into the x51-r2 analog 1/8" jacks on back on x51-r2 (and test play and record). If that fails, troubleshoot that with Dell. It will likely be drivers or motherboard.

I have tried to talk with a different mic but there is still static and it's wired with a 3.5 mm jack.

Yes, I thought of that but I didn't suggest it on purpose.

That would prove the PX3 is good, but it doesn't help simplify exhibiting the problem at x51. The PX3 would still be use in troubleshooting the x51 and would still be blamed.

A cheap (but working) analog stereo headset is only like $10. A pair of MP3 ear-buds and old PC mono-mic might also suffice (must be tested on other PC first though).

i have tried a wired mic and it still has static

Remove PX3 and uninstall any software and/or drivers for it. Reboot machine.

USING THE x51-R2 BACK 1/8" Audio Jacks (you should probably verify these colors):
Green - Connect simple analog stereo headphones or earbuds.
Pink - Connect PC-style analog mono mic.

After you do that (and can leave it that way for a day or so) post back here and either myself or Dell Rep. will help you troubleshoot.
