14 R1, Lights don't work

Unfortunately you have to take the CMOS battery out which resets the BIOS and put it back in, then the lights will go back on. Getting to the CMOS battery is a pain but you have time to do it because you are a nerd anyway. I would buy a new battery while I am doing that as well---they sell a bunch of different flat batteries at CVS. After resetting your BIOS to your original OS, leave it alone despite how much Microsoft begs you to upgrade to Windows 10. With 10, it will work for a while until the next upgrade, then the lights may turn off again. It's a flunky software they put on the 14's---maybe that's why they don't make them anymore. I am the king of Alienware as I owned two 17's, one 18, a 15 and a 14. I have taken these apart more often than you ever took a shower. The 14's were a forgotten son of the Alienware line and as being so it has the weaker processor pick, video card pick and no video card exhaust port. Good luck!

Here's a place to buy a new battery if you are too scared to rip open the barrier around the battery. I don't blame you, it's just another pain to go through. I'd just buy this replacement before going through the above procedure.
