m17 R3, AWCC, fan control not working

I can no longer control my fan or overclock in my Alienware Command Center. The buttons just spin and never load. My fan is now running on full speed and it's annoying.

Hi @TheCodyMatthew  welcome to this user to user forum. This is not Dell Support.

Please excuse asking the obvious, has the Alienware Command Center (AWCC) and its OC Controls application been uninstalled, Restart to save changes, downloaded and then reinstalled?

Hello mate, I had the same problem with my M15 R3. I think it was something when the driver is automatically updated and corrupt it. Try this one if it helps.

Write on the search bar “Device Manager”

Go to “System devices”

Check if you have two AWCC Driver twice, one working good and other with the warning sign like this:

Hit right click on the one with the warning sign and disable it.

Restart your PC and try again to open your AWCC.

If thermals and overclock bottoms show up so it might be possible that the last update corrupted your driver.

If you solved the problem just remove that driver and restart again your PC. It wont be necessary to reinstall your AWCC.

Hope this information would be useful for you and the community.

Hi @TheCodyMatthew  please try Repair AWCC.

Download AWCC update application, right click to Run as administrator, etc. and because AWCC already installed, a different window appears. Click on Repair, then Next, wait for repair successful window and then Restart to save the repair changes. When system boots, Open AWCC to activate repair.

Hopefully, fan controls are reinstated.

I have the same problem and it happens every time they push an update through. They force you to do these updates that take hours at times because of all the problems you get afterwards that dont get resolved. I had to run mine in safe mode and completely uninstall the software AGAIN and then reinstall the drivers... It's absolutely a pain in the  because these idiots who make these updates decisions dont know how to test it on another computer before FORCING ALL OF US to do one and trash our systems with their buggy software alterations that offer no physical improvements.... @crimsom @Chgom23

Hi @Skulljeep  Agree, it is very disappointing that Dell's reputation for superior gaming laptops is diminishing.

Have 'invested' many hours over six months, trying to install a fully functioning Dell AWCC update to reinstate AlienFX 2.0 applications, etc. Dell's quality control does not exist and AWCC Home and FX tabs try, but consistently fail to persist. Dell SupportAssist application does not troubleshoot AWCC and/or OC Controls. Big mistake buying new and expensive Alienware Laptop that does not get fixed under first year warranty return.

I have had this problem 2 times in my 3 months of ownership. It's ridiculous. Every time, I had to troubleshoot for hours. I updated my graphics driver recently and got the exact same problem as you. It would look forever and it asks me to download updates...which I do, but the updates NEVER install correctly so the AWCC would be in an infinite loading spin.

I need this program to control my fans when I game. I would love to NOT use this garbage, but I am forced to!!!

The temporary solution is this:

Go to "Add Remove Programs" and uninstall OC Controls and AWCC.

Download the newest OC Controls and AWCC from Dell's website.

Follow these steps: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-ca/000178439/how-to-remove-and-reinstall-the-alienware-command-center

Go to "Add Remove Programs" and uninstall all MS Visuals 2013-2019.

Restart computer, and install AWCC first. Then go install OC Controls.

That will work for some time until a new update messes this up!!!
