HP server HBA with Compellent SAN

Hello Experts,

We have planning to implement new SAN (Compellent SC8000). We will connect Dell ESXi servers R620 to this SAN via FC.

Now we have some existing HP Servers (DL380G7) , which are planning to Add it to the NEW San. IN order to do that we need to add new HBA Cards to the server. We are planning to buy new HBA  Cards HP 82Q (HP Part Number AJ764A).

Now , my question is

Is this cards HP 82Q (HP Part Number AJ764A) compatible with Compellent SAN SC8000?

Please Advise.

ps-- These cards are compatible with VMWare ESXi 4.1 later.

Thanks,

-Prashant Girennavar.

So, we have some experience with this.

The QLogic QLE2562 works without issues.

However, I believe that Dell will not officially support the HP Qlogic QLE2562 Part Number.

Just as HP won't support a Dell QLogic QLE2562 Part Number on the Host Side.

Again, we use both without issue.

This is more an issue of giving support a reason to punt the ball.

Why not just pick up some Qlogic cards? These are much more likely to be compatible with any server as well as any SAN.

QLE25xx are on the Dell Storage Compatibility Matrix for ESXi and tested for Compellent.

The HP cards may or may not work in a Dell PowerEdge (or any other non-HP server). The custom firmware on the card may prevent them from working properly.

If you just get 'generic' Qlogic QLE2562 cards, they have a very high chance of working just fine in most/all modern servers from all brands.
