Firmware update for R620 750w power supply
I'm running OME v2.0 and it reported we needed to apply a critical update to our 750w power supplies on our R620 servers (Power_Firmware_JX7PR_WIN64_09.2B.80_A00.EXE)
I've installed the update on 2 of our R620 servers and did not receive any errors. After the update process completes (and multiple reboots), it still shows the older firmware (v07.2B.80) is still installed.
Curious if anyone else has had this problem or successfully updated their power supply firmware.

If you read the documentation on the 09.2B.80 update it says:
WARNING: After successful PSU FW Update on PSU PN: 5NF18, PSU FW Version shall be 07.2B.80
So, prior to the update, my power supplies had version 07.2B.7D and after the update they have 07.2B.80. This means that they have in fact been updated. However, because the package version is 09.2B.80, things like OME will still say they need updating because version numbers do not match exactly. Dumbest thing ever and annoys me completely. All the time I wasted trying to get it updated when it already was.

Sort of. My analysis of the newest catalog is that Dell simply removed the PSU update altogether. It would have been preferable to keep the update and correct the detection/matching/compliance logic instead so that if in the future I come across a PSU that does not have the update it can actually be updated by OME/SUU/LCC. If I'm right, as of now you won't be able to update a PSU that has older firmware unless you do it manually.
However, it is awfully nice for those servers to finally show as compliant for the first time in years. :-)

Hi there and thanks for the post.
You may have to wait for 20+ mins to see the new inventory data. This is because we can't predict exactly when all of the updates will be complete and the next inventory cycle will be done.
- Is this update happening out of band (iDRAC + WSMan), or in-band (SNMP/WMI + OMSA) ?
- If OOB then check the iDRAC update logs and run SoftwareIdentity on the iDRAC and see the return
- If inBand provide us the task execution details
That should help start things off.

Rob,
Over a day later the inventory still shows the old version.
I perform the update manually in-band by running the EXE from Windows. I monitored the server reboots via the DRAC and did not see any errors.

Ok, well that does not sound right.
I think we'll need a support ticket so the guys can take a closer look and maybe collect some logs (800-945-3355 ).

I have same problem on about a dozen R620. I tried all update methods. (windows, OMSA, RAC). The update process did not generate any errors. Still old firmware after reboot, and after many days.
(Old: 07.2B.80, new 09.2B.80)

Tried again on two R620, and got this problem:
I updated again in Windows with Power_Firmware_JX7PR_WN64_09.2B.80_A00 The weird thing is it updated PS firmware to another version:
In LC log:
Successfully updated [PSU-2] PWR SPLY,750WP,RDNT,DELTA, 07.2B.80, A00.

You know, I had been thinking for a while that it seemed somewhat coincidental that the reported version of firmware is 07.2B.80_A00 and the target version is 09.2B.80_A00. This last post on the subject seems to corroborate a suspicion I have had that somebody fat fingered the entry of the firmware version into this package/catalog. Can we get someone on the Dell forums to escalate this to be investigated by engineering? I suspect the package is bad, keeps applying the same update over and over again, and that this whole situation is bogus.

I don't think it is a OME problem because if I look at the version via OMSA it shows the same version as OME.

I update religiously and this has been a problem for at least the last two catalogs, possibly more. When I check again today to see if it had been fixed in this week's catalog release it had not... here is the current version:

About two dozens of R620s. All have 07.2B.80 as PS firmware.
OME 2 deemed six systems as being compliant. Others need 09.2B.80 update.
