OME / ssh host key linux server

When I try to update a linux server using OME I get the error :

Results: File deploy command failed to execute with error message: The server's host key is not cached in the registry. The system may not be the same.

How can I fix this / where in the registry should I put the host key ?

BTW, just to confirm, you said the user is part of OmeAdministrators.  Does it also have local admin privileges on the OME server?

Did this ever get a resolution by phone? I'm stuck here now as well.

It's the same problem, and I did follow everything in the thread other than calling.

1. Ran the putty (plink) fix - no effect

2. Logged in as OME Admin

3. Checked plink from the command line with IP, short host, long host names. Works fine without prompting for key, so I know it's stored for that machine/user.

4. Tried omreport through remote command. Same problem.

5. Have not called phone support yet. Thought that the OP might share his resolution to save some phone time.

Chris,

Do you see the applicable updates in the Compliance report in OME?  If not, then the inventory collector may not be running correctly on the managed node.

Chris,

Did you review this thread?  There are a few notes on needing local admin permissions etc.

But I have not seen an escalation on this through phone support.  So without logs, etc., I can't really say what's up.

Thanks,

Rob

Yes. I see them fine now with my hack from the other thread.

Error is now same as OP on this thread - "The server's host key is not cached in the registry. The system may not be the same."

Trying to work around this error, I decided to try the key file method as described in the readme. I added the ppk to pageant, and tested that it works with plink. I also tested that "plink -i " works as well. However, it appears that OME will not let me create an update task with a blank password.

1. Create update task.

2. Enter a user name to run the task

3. Leave the password blank.

4. Click Finish.

OME task creation page produces an error message "Enter a user name and password".

Is this a bug or am I doing it wrong?

From the README in the System Updates section:

"NOTE: A blank password in Essentials triggers SSHauthentication using the RSA keys instead of using passwords. Essentials then attempts to find the entry in the "sshconfig.pro" file. If Essentials finds the system and user or global key in "sshconfig.pro", it uses the ".ppk" file for establishing an SSH connection to the server. However, if Essentials cannot find this information, it assumes that you meant to enter a blank password."

I can run the command below successfully from the OME machine, the same omreport command still fails from inside of OME. It must be something with some user or directory permissions on the OME machine, but I can't figure it out.

Is there any verbose or debug logging available to get a better look at what is happening under the hood? Nothing in the app logs.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\SysMgt\Essentials>"c:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\SysMgt\Essentials\bin\omremote.exe" -user=root -com=ssh2 "omreport system summary"

I need to check on that readme entry.  Not sure what it applies to offhand.  But I will review and clean it up.

So yeah, you need a pw for tasks and updates....Thanks! Rob

Still not working for me. Who provides support for System Management software?

Hi Chris, sorry I could not sort it out here.  Contact 800-945-3355  and they can open a ticket, collect logs, etc., and hopefully resolve.

Regards,

Rob

I solved the problem using the phone support.

I changed the service to run as the local admin user.

Thanks for the feedback Stephan. I wasn't sure which service needed the Administrator user so I changed all three of them (DSM BMU SOL Proxy, DSM Essentials Task Manager, and DSM Essentials Network Monitor) and restarted them.

Unfortunately the problem still persists for me. I opened a case a few days ago, but still unresolved through support.
