I am having a simiar problem with my 530. I had a problem with my power supply and I replaced it. Everything was working fine for a couple of days. I left the computer on and stepped away for about 30 minutes and when I came back I had a stead amber light. I tried turning it on but it no response. So I unplugged it and then plugged it in. Ipushed the button and it turned on. Then after about 2 minutes it shutdown and the light was a steady amber light. I did the same procedures as before and it turned on then it only stayed on for less than a minute. Now it won't even come on. One thing I noticed with the computer is that the light to the power supply is green but when I try to turn on the light in front goes to steady amber but the green power supply light goes out. I have tried almost everything I know. Does anyone know what could cause that?

Are there any 'Beeps'?

Have you tried the following?

As you have already replaced the power supply with a 'known' compatible/working unit and if you are comfortable working around computers:

Unplug the cord from the power supply, hold the power button in for about 15/20 seconds, open the case and remove all PCI cards from the system, take out the video card [if applicable], disconnect all peripherals, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard and disconnect the power & data cables from all drives.

Reconnect the power cord and power system on, see if you get a different LED indication on the power button, or 'Beeps'.

No difference, remove the memory from the system and try again.

Still shows no signs of life then you are looking at a motherboard replacement & maybe a processor.

Note: The processor rarely fails.

I am having the same problem, I changed power supply, changed on and off switch, unplugged one thing at a time ie drive, video card, dvd player and still no power, Time to replace with a new one (computer) I guess, it had vista business...

Hello Rajath:

I just wanted to say THANK YOU!

I was just about to order a new power supply for my Dell Inspiron 530 because the light in the back wouldn't come on when I plugged it in so I thought it was dead.

Then I spotted your reply and saw your suggestion to hold the power button for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. I thought it would NEVER come back to life... but it did instantly!

So thanks for the great tip!

Why does this work and does it mean that there is a problem with my power supply or something else?

Thank you very much!

Eric

amazing. my dell 530 died nearly two years ago. i replaced it with an i7 xps. since then the 530 sat under my desk with the intention of taking it an electronics recycler . recently, i wondered if i replaced the hard drive if it would work. nope. then i decided again to take it to an electronics recycler. then today, i decided to order a new psu. then i decided to google about the problem. and after reading several posts, i landed here and amazingly, i tried the simple suggestion of holding the power button for 30 seconds and then plug it back in and after two attempts, it worked! wow! it worked!

thank you so much rajath and eric. eric, if you hadn't posted that i worked, i wouldn't have tried it. thank you. woohoo! i'm gonna build a media server with the computer and the spare ssd i've got laying around.

thank you.

Did Palooka ever find out what caused the Dell 530S to not work. I am having the same problem of green light comes on but as soon as power button is pressed, green light goes out. No monitor display. No sounds from motherboard. I'm assuming nothing is working. The small fan inside the case turns initially when I press the power button and then stops. I realize I am responding to an old post but hopefully, you can head me in the correct direction to get the computer up and running. Thanks.
