Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435/8000/9000?

I have one on order with the delivery date of 4/1/09.  If anyone has been shipped theirs and had time to put it through it's paces, please comment on what you think. If not please post your expected ship dates so we will know who will be the first to comment!

Thanks!

This thread is a God-send! It's -EXACTLY- what I've been looking for!

Let me give some background info: I used to build my own pc's but it got to where it's not really all that much cheaper like it was 10 years ago. So 3 years ago I got my current Dimension brand new off eBay. It's a P4 3.2ghz, etc. etc. etc. Being the geek I am, a new PC is LONG overdue!

I had been coming to the Dell site for a couple weeks configuring various Studio XPS systems. Then all of a sudden the magical Studio XPS 435T showed up! I was and am put-off by the design compared to the 435MT model, to be honest, but the expansion room along with a bigger PSU sold me. I configured a fully loaded of both and went with the 435T.

My order was placed March 9th, exactly 1 week ago!

Last Friday I realized I forgot to use my coupon code to save 25% off the system (the code worked 100% but expired on the 10th or 11th, I forget). So I called the support line in India and they not only refused to apply that coupon code now but said it was impossible. I even spoke to their manager/supervisor who affirmed the same exact thing! They said, as many of us have heard, I can only send back the system when I get it and then re-order with the coupon code. The only problem? The coupon is now expired!

I was very upset and still am, but what can I do? I guess I could try that other 1-800 # that we all know now, but to be honest I can't see them being able to do anything now that the code is expired (even though, again, I placed the order a good 2 days before it expired). I could have saved $450 or so-- My 435T came to $1,800+ after taxes!

Well enough of that. Moving along...

I have been getting too excited for my new Dell to arrive. I am constantly checking the order status, my email, etc. On sites like Yahoo Answers there's countless people saying never to trust the order status page and Dell frequently overstates the dates by 1-2 weeks ALL THE TIME! Then I found the Dell forums, where we are right now, and it's riddled with posts of people saying Dell does nothing but keep pushing back their delivery dates!

I was about to pull my hair out! I thought if they are having issues, I probably will too because I got a brand new Dell model and I upgraded it a bit!

I am so glad to see people saying their 435T's have shipped 1-2 weeks early. That means mine should ship soon, too! Hopefully a week from today or so. The ship date when ordering was 4/1 but the delivery date at time of order completion and still today is 4/7.

BTW, I upgraded to Vista Ultimate (still not sure why but oh well), upgraded to the 4670 1gb video card, and 6gb of ram (as well as wireless keyboard/mouse, media card reader, maybe something else small). I will get another drive from NewEgg (probably a 15000rpm) and 12gb tri-channel ram upgrade there too most likely. To the original poster, your link for Dell's 12gb tri-channel ram kit goes to some 2gb ram kit for $30-something.

If anyone wants, I wouldn't mind talking about our upcoming systems on AIM or IRC. AIM: basicair1 IRC: Air on irc.gamesurge.net

Same here - I had expected that mine would have shipped by now given the fact that several others on the board here had later ship dates than mine -but no dice.  I did call and verify everything's ok with the order - so still waiting on a part / item - I guess ( hunch is the speakers I ordered - next time won't be doing that.. :) )

XBL Aer,

Welcome, Great post! Sorry about the coupon, I just lucked out.

Please be sure to update us when you get your "shipped" email and please comment (after you put it through it's paces) on what you think of the system.

I too am a system builder (and over clocker), in fact this is my first (Dell) and any purchased commercial PC.

I agree, it was getting much more expensive to "build your own"

jsgiv,

Who did you call to get this info?

Now that you mention that, I have clicked on those "may delay" messages and seen the delay time estimates.

BUT, keep in mind that it's for new orders with that item. I remember specifically when I customized mine it had a step where it shows the estimated ship date and it had every part listed and had a column for possible delays and added that time in. So your original delivery date estimate they gave you (you can re-check your original delivery date estimate in the original order confirmation email if you forgot the original date and they've since changed it) already factored in current delays they knew of on any parts in your build.

I am glad none of my parts had any delays at the time I ordered it 1 week ago nor do they right now! Woo-Hoo! Hopefully mine should ship soon then.

But again, I have read of people here in this thread who have seen their 435T ship 7-10 days earlier than Dell said but I have also read other threads of people who ordered other desktops/laptops and experienced up to one month or more in delays!

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed!

I'm going off to bed but I'll be back on tomorrow quit a bit. I've got 2 of the next 3 days off work. :)

I would also like to know where he got these delay info bits from.

I remember through the many times I built and built a custom Studio XPS over the last couple weeks that at one time that video card he cites did say it "could delay" your order if you added it. That was on there for about 3-5 days on the 435MT custom builds. But it never said how long the delay was, and it was only on that one video card. I ordered the highest one on the 435T which has 1gb of memory and isn't available on the 435MT (due to PSU constraints on the MT) and it never said there could be delays with it on the custom build pages of Dell's site.

I would imagine he talked to one of those support people in India and got the delay information from them.

I am glad I didn't get the Blu-ray burner. I was tempted but I want to wait to get a Blu-ray burner until the media gets cheaper (about $8-10/disc single layer right now and well over $25/disc on the 50gb dual layer discs) plus I will just go to NewEgg for that.

I didn't know you got to use that 25% coupon code, I was just mentioning I had thought I did use it but I didn't somehow! Man that still upsets me that Dell won't honor that for me. Sure it was my mistake, but if they cared about their customers they would still help them out there. I placed the order before it expired and I was calling them the day or 2nd day after it expired explaining how I thought I used it but must have forgot. Plus, the 435T is still a long way from shipping (hopefully not, but by their estimates it is)! Let's not talk about that little coupon code anymore. Being reminded of that over $450 I could have saved angers me so much!

Do you or others know of any delays in base hdd, wireless kb/m, or the 1gb ati video card? I hope not but I would like to know!

So - to add a little..

Went back to the site to review my order and now remember....

The ATI 4850 HD video card I ordered with my system is currently on a 5-day delay... figures.. :emotion-7:

Also - FYI - jjon90 - looks as though you included a blu-ray drive - which is on a 3-day delay - which would further explain your delay.. :emotion-3:.

So - given that the "non-delayed" systems started shipping out last week - *hopefully* - with the 5-day lag - that means that my system will be shipping in the next few days...

Or I'm reading waaaaay to much into it and it could all just be a conspiracy.. :emotion-11:

jjon90 -

I didn't call anyone .. :emotion-2:

If you go back to the site - go back through the configuration/order process - you'll note that certain items are highlighted as "may delay your ship date" - specifically the ATI 4850 HD Video Card (my system) - and the Blu-Ray Drive (your system - per the specs you posted to this thread earlier).

If you click the links contained in those highlighted boxes - it actually details the amount of delay in a pop-up: 5 days for the 4850HD - 3 days for the Blu-Ray Drive.  Going back to the site - I now remember that the card *did* have a delay on it at the time I ordered the system.  You'll also notice that those who have received their units, to-date, do not have any of the items mentioned (i.e. they either have the 4670 or the 4870 video card - haven't noticed anyone order the Blu-Ray drive other than you..).

At this point - I'm guessing that my system will most likely ship sometime this week - assuming that Dell orders the 4850 card special order (thus the delay - or there's just that much demand for the card right now with regards to all the other systems that use the same type of card in the queue).  If I had to bet - I'd bet that my system ships out tomorrow or Wednesday - solely based on the early reports of the systems shipping out on the 11th of last week.  That would account for the 5 (business) day delay.

Worst case scenario - per the phone system - it's due to ship out by the 23rd.  However, as previously stated - Dell tends to "overstate" their estimated ship date (thus making it look like they're *really* early with your system.. :) - it's all about setting expectations...  It'd just be really really nice to have it here by the weekend..

XBL Aer , Fortunately I did use the coupon by accident. As I previously mentioned I ordered the 435mt and kept trying to use the coupon but it said invalid. This was the day they just announced the new 435T so I configured it and BAM! the coupon worked on it. My savings was over $600 that is why I added the extra RAM and Blu ray burner. Not to mention, I did order this system because I just bought an HD video camera and when I played back and tried to edit on my current system it was so choppy and slooooooow.

Guys hang in there for your delivery, I think it will all be worth it when it shows up.  The case is a tank and great Air Flow.  The 4870 card actually has a heat sink that runs out to a fan at the front of the case, the door is perforated where the blower on the CPU is located, and there is actually a vent on the door where the video card sit.

You may get your pc before or after the time listed, but at least in my case the ETA was originally March 21st, then moved to March 30th, and I actually got it delivered on the 14th.  Hopefully you all get yours a week or 2 early as well.

I never heard of a 25% off coupon, that would have been nice.

Mine is still in production with estimated arrival date of 3/30.  I did get the 25% off with coupon from Slickdeals a couple of weeks ago.  I also used points I had with AmEx to purchase a $200. Dell gift certificate which helped also.  My 2408 monitor which I purchased separate has already arrived.  Thanks to all those posting their impressions.  How is the fan noise? I ask because  the last guy who posted under reviews on the purchased page complained about how loud it was.  I would have thought It would be quieter than the 435mt since there were complaints about the noise on that model.

Great listing XBL!!

Based on your descriptions below - mine is off though....but, I think I originally listed it incorrectly.

My 'Ship Date' is 3/24

'Delivery Date' is 3/31

--------------------------------------

Thanks for putting that list together!

Mine's still 'in production'....and in the build stage.....nothing in my setup is that unusual - so not sure what the delay is compared to others that have received it....Like everyone else I'm getting a little impatient to receive it....
