Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435/8000/9000?

I have one on order with the delivery date of 4/1/09.  If anyone has been shipped theirs and had time to put it through it's paces, please comment on what you think. If not please post your expected ship dates so we will know who will be the first to comment!

Thanks!

Nice! Congracts on getting yours! The OCZ ram you speak of, that's the same ram I linked to at Newegg here, right?:

Others --

I decided to call and check on my order status again since the other user did at the end of the last page of comments. It's still in "build" stage and I'm not surprised. That's okay with me, but I just wanted to let you guys know. Also, my expected ship/delivery date of March 31st (ship) and April 7th (delivery) are still true. I ordered now 8 days ago and haven't seen my dates get pushed back once yet. I don't expect them to delay my pc either considering none of the parts in my custom build were delayed. :)

I am still thinking about the 12gb memory upgrade from Newegg I linked to. I used to game quite a bit and even made maps for games like CS:S. I don't anymore, but if I did I am sure I could use the ram upgrade. The most memory-hogging things I do on my pc these days is Photoshop, along with extracting/ripping and burning DVD's, though not nearly as much as I used to. I am planning on getting into Blu-ray ripping/burning within the next year. I'm still just wondering if I'd really see much benefit from 12gb vs. 6gb of tri-channel, ddr3 ram.

The model number listed on Newegg is the same as the one that's on the box I have.  So yes - they are the same.

I had an original delivery date of 4/1/09 (After cancelling my order for the 435MT the day after the 435T was announced.

So.. quite interesting - my order is now in delivery preparation.. :emotion-11:

Ideally - if it ships later tonight - hopefully will get it by Friday afternoon.

Amazed at how quickly it went from Kitting -> Build -> Testing -> Delivery Prep within one day..  Plus - I've a feeling that the system is actually "behind" the next step in the process, instead of a "real-time" status (i.e. it's just cleared delivery prep - now in the process of getting tagged with shipping information and hopping on a truck)..

Hoping it continues on a smooth path as it has so far...

cwlc98, Great review! Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Better now than failing out of warranty. Did your customer service rep sound like he was from India? In my opinion the reps there are not up to speed or have current policy knowledge. I.E. they told me repeatedly I could not cancel my system once it was in the production stage, I even have an email stating this! I call the 1-800 number (and it sounds like reps from Mexico) and BAM! canceled in less than a minute. Anyone from Dell want to chime in and explain why the CSR's in India are misinformed?

I just got mine tonight but it arrived dead - it ran long enough for me to setup. I turned it off, went to turn it back on and it is dead. Green light on power supply, fans spin up but nothing.I called Dell support and much to my surprise they were really friendly and are sending me a new one. We'll see if I get a replacement in 3-5 business days as promised - customer service has been really hit or miss over the past year for me through both our government contract and as an individual.

My initial impressions:

Case: The case is heavy and solid. A BIG improvement over the old standard Studio/Inspiron/Vostro Minitower noise machine. The front plastic panels seem a little flimsy. It is going to be interesting to see how the front drive panels and buttons hold up over time. Finally Dell thought it through and made a machine with a media reader not behind a door, and USB ports that are easily accessible. I am glad to see a case with a cool design that doesn't look like a homebuilt system put together by a 14 year old (XPS series) or a bland circa 1999 IBM clone box (Vostro/Inspiron). Really happy with the case even though it is really prone to fingerprints.

Noise: For a Core I7 this machine is well ventilated and extremely quiet. I was pleasantly surprised. It appears with the vented side panel and the front case fan - Dell really made a good effort at cooling. I appreciate having a vent right above the Video Card port. The solid feel of the case and side panels really help to dampen fan noise. Runs much cooler and quieter than my Vostro 400.

Bloatware: For the most part Dell left off the bloatware that is a common plague among all manufacturers. Dell Data Safe, Remote Desktop, and Launch Pad all appear to be relevant useful features. Only complaint is that they still ship with McAfee installled.

Ports: Love the fact that this comes with eSATA and firewire standard. Finally!

Keyboard: Now most people swap the keyboard and mouse out first thing, but I have always been partial to the old Dell Keyboards. They always had the right amount of stiffness and click. The media keyboard that shipped with this machine is TERRIBLE. It feels like they used a COMPLETELY different type of plastic that feels very flimsy - reminds me of the 8 dollar throwaway keyboards you can buy at Walmart. Completely disappointed in the quality of the keyboard. Did Dell switch keyboard suppliers?

Accessories: My XPS M1330 came with a really nice binder for system software and a microfiber cloth. The XPS 435T came with discs in a really cheap paper cardboard holder. No microfiber cloth. Did I say how prone this system is to fingerprints?

Speed: This machine is blazing fast. 5.9 across the board on Vista. Couldn't be happier with the performance for the brief time I got to use it.

Video/Slots: The ability to do SLI or Crossfire would be nice, but I doubt that is the market segment Dell is shooting for with this machine. The inclusion of a PCI slot was a nice feature for those that do audio creation.

All in all I think I am going to be happy with this system once I finally get my replacement at the price I paid. Good cooling, noise levels and performance and a nice attempt at designing a machine to compete with other high end media design desktops (Mac Pro, Voodoo PC, etc). I was a little suprised to receive a machine that died after the first reboot - in 20 years that has never happened to me before.

I'll post a followup once I get the replacement.

Did you check that your 1333mhz memory was actually recognized? I got my XPS 435t  today and installed 12gb of Crucial 1333GB ram. When I checked in BIOS, it was listed as 1066. I called Dell tech support and was told my new PC would only recognize 1066 ram. I replied that I was aware of some individuals who were successful in having their faster ram speed recognized and that some others had to update the BIOS to A06 to have the correct ram speed recognized. I insisted on talking to next level support, who had me update the bios. But, unfortunately, my 12GB of ram still says 1066mhz. Without any further discussion the tech said he would replace my MB and that is what will happen in a couple of days.

Another issue I am having is with my new Auzentech Prelude 7.1 sound card. The headphone jack on the front top of the case PC is not being recognized so I have no sound from the headphones. Also, not all speakers are working so I'll continue working on it.

Having said all of that, this is one steller machine. It's lightening fast, quiet and very responsive.

I'm really happy with mine, sorry to hear about he DOA unit :(

I did notice the V-card was running at 76 degrees with the fan at 20% So I knocked that up to 25% and that dropped it down to 60 degrees.  It isn't anything with the case or air flow, the 4870 cards run hot from what I have read.  Don't know if that increase scales when it is under load though, thats really the only time it matters, so hopefully it does.

I like the keyboard ok, it isn't anything special tho by any means, but gets the job done.

System recognizes the 12G of memory at 1066 (haven't played with bios setting to see if that can be changed).

Have you figured this out?

Haven't really worked on this, yet.  Been installing apps and drivers.  No problem with the upgrade process at this point.  Have been using Win XP Pro, so getting into Vista 64 has been an educational process.  The raid setup in my old machine wasn't recognized by the 435T's raid configuration.

From a previous post, it looks like there is an update already on the bios.  Will be tracking the progress on getting the most out of the memory on this machine as soon as I load my video apps and start doing some projects.   Hopefully, the rendering time under After Effects will be drastically improved.

So far, the machine has ran without any problems.  (Except when I enabled the Raid,  the harddrive boot sequence modified itself and the machine went looking for a USB harddrive upon reboot.  Resulting in Windows continually rebooting the machine at the logo sequence.  Quick change of the bios got machine back on track.)

Hey Guys,

Ordered a 435MT on 2/11 with original ship date of 3/14. After 3 delays I was given the option to cancel. This was fine with me, cause as you all know Dell subsequently introduded the 435T, which has a few extra options/gadgets. Ordered the 435T yesterday (3/17) with estimated delivery of 4/13, with the following configuration.

Studio XPS 435T, Intel Core i7-920 processor(8MB L2 Cache 2.66GHz)

6GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz

512MB ATI Radeon HD 4670

Serial ATA II RAID 1 With Dual500GB Hard Drives

Blu-ray 6X BD-R, DVD+/-RW Drive and 16X DVD+/-RW w/double layer write capability

Curious if anyone gets the RAM to work at 1333MHz.

Sweet! Let me know when you get the 435T to recognize your 12gb Ram Kit by OCZ properly and I will pull the trigger on NewEgg! :emotion-1:

Nice! I am happy for your order status to be moving right along. I just called a second ago and I'm still in the "Build" stage. Again, I'm not surprised, but it still would have been nice to move along! Your ship/delivery date is exactly 8 days ahead of mine so I'd imagine that one week from today I'll be in the packaging/shipping phase like you are today!

cwlc98 --

Wow! I am sorry to hear your system is dead now! At least they say 3-5 days for a replacement. That's amazing how they get a replacement built and shipped so quick yet the original takes weeks. SURELY they build replacements here in the U.S. then, I'd imagine. Vista rates your hardware based on the make/model and not the performance of it, so don't be fooled by all the 5.9 ratings. Don't get me wrong, we all got awesome systems in the 435T that will rate high but Vista doesn't rate performance but rather just the parts themselves. If you Google it, you'll find that in Windows 7, MS is going to include testing actual performance of your pc's parts, too! I figured the keyboard wasn't that great so that's why I upgraded to the wireless kb/m. If it's no good then I will stick with my current kb/m anyway. :emotion-1:

Sorry to hear about the RAM speed troubles. I may pull the trigger on the 12GB of OCZ ram on NewEgg still but if my 435T recognizes it as 1066 I may just leave it at that. Would most people really see a difference from 12GB of 1333 vs 1066? I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong.
