XPS 435 Owners Thread

The "Has anyone taken delivery" thread is getting out of control - and far more people there are not owners... SO how about this new and improved XPS 435 Owner's Thread!?  Instead of posting 15 updates a day about delayed orders, newest deals, etc, how about we start a thread dedicated to the owners of this machine, and also a place where future owners can ask technical or performance questions about the machine.  There are a good amount of owners here, so let's build a community!

Any takers?

Hi, I'm new to tinkering with computers, but I noticed my 435mt runs kinda hot. I saw the Antec SpotCool fan, I'm just wondering where I could connect the 3 pin connector to, I was looking at the motherboard and couldn't find any spare connections. Thanks in advance.

I am looking for others that have this machine and any problems they are having. I was told I could overlock my machine when I bought it but now Dell says my model does not have the over-clock option Dell said they have. Has anyone any experience. PD getting into the setup screen is a nightmare, you have to really really work at it.

Dell has laid out a horrible MOBO for this machine

I have the ATI HD 4890 and love it. awesome picture running two monitors, both HD and 26", never ever a noise or heat issue. In fact I cannot hear it at all. ATI gave me excellent customer service in getting my monitors set to mirror image, It was pretty tricky.

Dell as usual did not have the correct ATI drivers loaded, pretty bad when they sold the card. but ATI helped me with a smile. I highly recommend it if you decide to make the switch, only complaint, again with Dell is the double ATI card complete covers an unused PCI Express slot on a Dell designed MOBO, so Dell again fails in product quality. I bought a computer with three slots, one occupied but the failed to mention one was useless as it is hidden.

Gee you think the designers would notice such an obvious flaw! The next slot is virtually useless as any card would block the fan on the ATI card so unless I find something low profile I can count that slot out too. Way to go Dell!

Anew forum would be great especially with some people that can help as Dell is totally lame at Customer Service

I search for this forum and could not find it, was given a link

This computer has an Identity problem, First the Studio XPS 435T ,the the Studio XPS 435/9000, now I hear it will be the Studio 9000, all the same machine. What do you suggest we call it?

Dig out the flimsy keyboard Dell sent you, use it to boot into the setup. It will work, store it out of sight (ugly) and save it for getting into setup, Keep the beaytifull Logitech and bear with the extra boot time. You should have no problems

Has anyone been able to put in a larger power supply. If so what make and model is it. I want to add lots of stuff but am worried that the feeble power supply will not handle it.

Attention all Dell Studio XPS 435 owners. There is a new thread "Dell Studio XPS 435 9000" for owners seeking help or advise

s.myrr do you want to "build your community" I think we will all need support

Do you know how to set up an RSS to this new thread?

The problem is, 99% of your questions have been answered already in detail, sometimes in triplicate x 10, with everything from the PSU capabilities to the pros and cons of this model and the various issues encountered.   Between this, the shipping thread, the bios update thread, and the fans thread, the various itinerations of the Studio XPS 435 (435MT/435T/XPS 9000) have been covered ad-nauseum.  I agree that Dell's naming scheme has been problematic, and a bit confusing, and with the 9000 comes more head scratching.  I do think you've set the record for most posts in a row, something to be proud of, perhaps.   OF  course, a separate Studio XPS 9000 thread might be a good thing;  then again, it might just be another place rehashing the same issues that have been covered already, now even more spread out and diffused.  Granted, the search feature and makeup of this forum is not exactly top notch.  Lastly, who needs an RSS feed when Dell throws you into Dante's Circle of Doom with a new email notification every time some jackdaw gets a new boot time or BSOD with his new Bluetooth Carpet Cleaner attached?  And now you are in the mix.  You will be living the Studio XPS 435/9000 nightmare, my good friend.

I've read more than once of people adding standard-sized ATX supplies without issue, often things like the Corsair 750TX.

Depending on what you're adding, do also keep in mind that Dell tends to underrate their PSU's. Until you're sure the included one is "broke" you might hesitate to fix it.

Good plan, so far no smoke or balls of flames, so will play a wait and see, my next wish list is to try to get the OH SO HANDY HP Pocket drive Bay installed. I found one one eBay and hope it will fit in the standard floppy drive bay, both of which are empty. Why did dell even put them in the case since they don't sell floppy drives and more. The could have been excellent drive bays or even a storage compartment for odds and ends behind the cool door on the bezel

I can't believe what's going on with my recently purchased dell studio xps 435/9000.  I ordered it on 9/13/09 and the initial date I was supposed to get it was 9/24/09 and now they've delayed it and haven't told me the reason!!!!!!!  The new delivery date is 10/1/2009.  When I call the order support number all I get is someone in India who tells me to keep checking the flipping website for status.  At least HP keeps their promises!!!!!!!

Welcome to the world of Dell Customer DIS-Service. They did the same thing to me not once but twice! I had to get them to swear my price was guaranteed as I bought it on a rare sale day and had a coporate discount. Don't worry, life will just get worse, there are lots of tips on how to fight Dell in these Forums. I agree the computers I have ordered from HP on nehalf of friends came lightening fast and perfect and later fixed with absolutely no hassel. To bad they do not offer in house financing

Many thanks for pushing me to totally remove all Dell Forum notifications of any kind.   These posts almost read as if laid out by an HP stock holder.  Between this, and the guy with the week delay going postal, it's time to say Selah.

I know it's frustrating at times but you have been a consistant contributor here.  Hang in there with this thread i-vol and just ignore the few who rant and/or don't bother using "search".  I would hate to see you go...
