Windows 7 Imaging Options

Question

Challenge: Looking for a solution to address Windows 7 deployments. The environment is on a path with high growth projections and will increasingly require the addition of new PCs and laptops. Currently purchase Dell PCs and laptops to meet these needs; however, the method of deployment presents an opportunity for greater efficiency. Questions: What is the best practice for creating a master image under the current Dell purchase scheme (PC shipped with Windows 7 64-bit OS pre-installed)? Symantec Ghost Suite is currently available; however, the plan is to eventually integrate SCCM into our environment. Would like to create an image today that could be used with Ghost and ideally in the future with SCCM. Would welcome imaging best practice suggestions. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Personally I get a pc prepped and then using WDS (Windows Deployment Services) you use that to capture an image of the machine and then use that to push out to clients using PXE.

Microsoft Deployment toolkit would be a good place to start for image creation. It integrates with SCCM and a system built with MDT could be captured with Ghost. Dell CFI supports all of them if you want to have your custom build delivered from the factory.
