Uploading your custom image for new PC's using Dell Configuration Services

When your custom image has been tested and is ready to upload to Dell’s factory to be applied to new PC’s before they ship, you will need to install the File Transfer application to upload your image for factory integration.

Contact US_OSImaging@Dell.com for support.

Dell File Transfer, a Windows-based application that allows users to upload system images (e.g., .wim, .iso, .vhd, etc.) to Dell securely is used. It supports deduplication and encryption (SSL and AES 256-bit) to ensure safe and efficient transfers.

The Dell File Transfer Application is a secure tool designed to help users upload large image files (like system images) to Dell for deployment or support purposes. Here's a short summary of how it works:

How It Works

Installation

  • Download the app from Dell.com/fta.
  • Requires admin rights and .NET Framework 4.7.2+.
  • Installs by default to C:\Dell\File Transfer.

  • Use a Dell My Account or Premier Account.
  • Credentials must be shared with your Dell project manager or set up in TechDirect.

File Upload

  • Select a project and add image files (up to 100 GB).
  • Supported formats include .wim, .iso, .vhd, .xml, etc.
  • Files are scanned and uploaded; confirmation is sent via email.

Security

  • Uses Dell domains (*.dell.com, *.dellfaas.com) and encrypted storage.
  • Files are stored in secure third-party data centers with Dell-only access keys.

Troubleshooting

  • Includes guidance for issues like login failures, slow transfers, and project selection errors.
  • Offers command-line fixes for proxy issues and browser compatibility tips.
