Inspiron 24-5477, LCD, left side vertical band

Hi,

I've encountered exactly the same problem with my Dell Inspiron AIO 24-5477 for many months now. At the left side of the screen, I get a white, transparent vertical band/stripe of about 6,5 centimeters in width. Until now, one time the white, transparent vertical band/stripe was double that size (around 13 centimeters). So it seems the display logic divides the screen in bands of 6,5 centimeters and for me, most of the times the first band fails, and sometimes the first 2 bands.

The problem is not only popping up in Windows itself, but also in the BIOS and in the Recovery Menu started from the BIOS. If I do a full power off, even disconnecting the power cable for a few minutes, and then starting up again the problem remains. If I leave it running or power it off for a few hours, the problem disappears automatically.

The PC is completely updated with all available Windows/Dell updates and I've already tried the solutions described in knowledge base article SLN312804 and also mentioned in the first post multiple times, but without any results. The problem remains always the same.

I've also opened a support call for it with Dell, but the only "solution" that Dell could offer is to replace the LCD and cables. But from everything I've read and also their feedback, this is not a guarantee it will actually solve this issue. As far as I can see, I don't think they actually pinpointed the root cause yet, so replacing the LCD and cables is just a "guess". So I'm reluctant sending back my PC, having its guts pulled out and get a replacement screen, waiting for many weeks to maybe get it back in the same (or even worse) state as it is right now. This is really an annoying situation for a brand new PC!

Anyone has some more information on the root cause? And are there people out there where the replacement LCD actually solved this issue?

Thanks!

BartD

You probably will get a new or refurbished computer back. Displays on all in ones are difficult if not impossible to fix. Send it to Dell for warranty repairs. Copy all your personal files before returning it to Dell. Follow the instructions they send.

The pictures in your post do not show up in the forum. Only you can see them.

Ok, thx for the quick feedback Mary. Before I'm sending it back to Dell under warranty, I would like to know if they actually found the root cause for this issue and not "repairing" it or sending me a refurbished computer with the same problems. From what I've read it seems there is a design fault is this model so repairing/replacing it with the same, defective model is of no use.

Concerning the pictures, any suggestions on how to make them public? If I open them on the forum, they appear to be public? And if I open them on another computer where I'm not logged on, it also shows them so I'm not sure why you can't see them...?

Just to add to what Mary already said...

After you back up your personal files on external media, delete them from the hard drive, and also make sure you have the product keys for any apps you installed (eg, Microsoft Office, etc), in case they decide to replace the PC rather than repair it.

Uploaded images have to be reviewed before they appear in a thread on Dell's forum. So while you see your uploaded images immediately, the rest of us can't see them until after they're approved. They were visible to me by the time I made my previous post in this thread.

We have no way to know if Dell has fixed the problem. It could have just been a bad batch of LCD panels from that particular manufacturer or something else. And we don't know if they'll repair this system and send it back to you or simply send you a refurbished unit, which they have the right to do under the warranty. Either way you still have warranty coverage for the balance of the original warranty.

Bottom line, as long as the system works when you get it...
