I would suggest not posting your Email address in the forum for your own safety and security.

You listed a number of specs but not the exact model number. Judging by the MB part number is it a G5 5090? This forum post has a huge amount of information regarding a PSU upgrade. Read the full post by @speedstep for a full rundown.

Upgradeability of the power supply and GPU depends on the system model -- on many newer models or those with small chassis, the upgrade is in fact either extremely difficult or impossible.

You'll need to provide the system model number.  And unless you already have the video card in hand, bear in mind that these sell for $600 and up as used and over $1,000 new at present -- add the cost of a power supply and the availability factor of buying just a card, and you may well find a new system is more cost- and time-effective.

I'm using a 3070ti (290W TDP) with spliced lines on my Dell 500W PSU. Been about half a year and zero issues!

But seriously, just switch to a 20 or 30 series.  What is the TDP of a 1080?

And if you have the 360W PSU, my Optiplex runs just fine witha 3060ti (200W TDP)

I have a Optiplex 7090 and have been gifted a 3070ti. Will be installing it soon. Can you elaborate on the "splicing" you mentioned. Looks like I will need the 500w psu.

Alternatively: I'm no stranger to pc hardware can I just Frankenstein it and have a big Corsair 750w psu outside the case run with adapters?

I am new to the Dell specific hardware situation.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

You can use Corsair psu outside case + 24 pin to 6 pin adapter for 7090.

Is 7090 MT?  A 3070 Ti is full height that fits MT but not SFF

Alternatively use SFX or TFX psu from Silverstone etc that can sit inside MT case

Yes it is an Optiplex 7090 MT (mini tower). Thanks for the prompt reply(s)!

Quick update to all:

A 3070ti will not fix into the mini-tower of the 7090 without some cutting at least at the rear of the case. I am in the middle of this process now-

HOWEVER. What is more of a problem is I installed a Corsair 750e PSU outside the case with all the appropriate connectors and it will not power up (even without the new GPU installed). When I switch back to the stock PSU it boots fine (with no GPU installed).

I don't know exactly where the problem is here. Has anyone run a Corsair PSU outside the case of a Dell 7090 before? I just ran a volt meter to some of the pins on the PSU and the voltages are way out of spec... so I'm hoping this is the problem. Will return it and see what happens. WIll also update here for anyone following the saga. Anyone out there have any advice?

UPDATE:

I had the wiring wrong from the PSU to the motherboard. I corrected this and the Optiplex 7090 is now running from a Corsair 750w power supply. The Power supply is outside the case but hey.. it works.

Next: The 3070ti is too large to fit within the case PERIOD. I was going to cut the case a bit but soon realized this was a bad idea for multiple reasons. New solution is to buy a GPU Riser cable so I can have this over-sized GPU sit outside the case as well. This riser should arrive in the next few days and I will give it a shot and report the results here so you who are running into this situation will have more guidance than I had here winging it in January of 2023.
