Boot not getting to POST

When I power it on, the power button, keyboard, and caps lock light up solid (no blinking of any kind). No fan, no screen flickering, no other sign of life. At first, the system would shut down after about 45 sec. No, it seems to stay in this state indefinitely....well at least for 15 min, the. I shut it down.

Tried unplugging the battery and detached from power, then pressed and held power button for 30 sec to fully drain any capacitors. Still the same result.

Tried re-seating both memory sticks...no change.

Tried holding down FN + power...same thing happens.

Funny that I was also having issues in my Hyper-V guest that I was running on this machine that I had upgraded to Windows 11. (But the main OS, the Hyper-V host was still Windows 10 pro). So first software issues....then within an hour, I get this no boot, hardware issue.

What to try next?

Board likely dead? This is my second Dell laptop in a row (Prior was XPS 15) that the board went bad in like 3 years.

Welcome to the Dell Community @chadwixk

To better assist you, the members and I would need the exact model number of your laptop/desktop???

Best regards,

Ah, found those codes Led flash codes . Memory missing. So I plugged in the memory, now no flash codes at all

While it is powered on, if I then press the power button, the fan fires up, and then the whole laptop shuts down.

@chadwixk

Hold down the "D" key, push the power button, release the power button, wait 2-3 seconds and release the "D" key

The laptop should go through an LCD test of solid White, Red, Green, Blue and Black 2 or 3 times.

After completion it should try to automatically boot 2 or 3 times.

Post your results.

Unplugged hard drive, both memory cards, and Wifi card. Now I am seeing the front indicator flash. 3 white, 2 Amber flashes. Where can you look that up to see what it means (probably means SOL, lol )

@U2CAMEB4ME it booted once and stayed on with the front led flashing white about once per second, and is still doing so after about 3 min. Oh, and fan is running.

@U2CAMEB4ME it went through the color screen sequence, but then just shut down. It did not try to reboot after that.
