Cannot install Intel Chipset Driver due to copy file error
Had to reinstall Windows 8.1 (64 bit) on a new SSD. In device manager there is an exclamation mark on the SM Bus Controller. According to Dell's help site you have to install the chipset driver to fix this.
I entered the service tag of my Inspiron 5547 on the support page, downloaded the Intel chipset driver version 9.4.0.1025, A00, but the installation fails during the first step, the copying process of CSVer.dll.
The log says:
[CopyFiles]
New Uninstall Key = copyfile0
Copy File Source = C:\ProgramData\Dell\drivers\Chipset_Driver_V8P24_WN_9.4.0.1026_A00\CSVer.dll
Copy File Destination = C:\Windows\SysWOW64\CSVer.dll
Copy file error (87) on source = C:\ProgramData\Dell\drivers\Chipset_Driver_V8P24_WN_9.4.0.1026_A00\CSVer.dll. Trying again.

!!! ERROR 0x57: CopyFile generated an unexpected error.
[ResponseResult]
ResultCode = 87
This happens both with the Dell Update package and the zipped file. It also happens in safe mode. I've found others with this problem, but no solution. Can anyone please tell me how I can install this driver and get rid of the exclamation mark?
Maybe it fails because the "copy file source" directory C:\ProgramData\Dell\drivers\ is empty?

Apparently the problem is solved. I opened the device manager, clicked update driver on the SM Bus Controller, browsed for drivers on my computers and chose the C:\DELL\DRIVERS\V8P24 directory in which I had extracted the driver previously. After a short moment it said that the driver for the Intel(R) 8 Series SMBus Controller has been successfully installed. I'm a bit suprised that it worked this way and it installed exactly what I needed.

Yeah, this is the driver I cannot install (even if it wrongly says ...1025 instead of ...1026 on the support page).

I have had to do that when installing drivers.
It is not just with Dell. Happens with other brands like HP, Acer, Lenovo, ASUS.
Great you got it working.
