Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery "We are missing some of your system details needed to finish the restore..."

Hello,

I have a G15 5511. I bought it a week ago. Initially, it was having reoccurring flea power issues which eventually got resolved (so far). But now, I am unable to do a factory reset. I have tried:

  • 1- Backup Partition within the SSD,
  • 2- Cloud recovery through a wired connection,
  • 3- USB recovery

Using any of the options, the OS Recovery tools spit out an error as OS Download is completed at 22%:

( We are missing some of your system details needed to finish the restore.  We are aware and working to fix the issue. You can try again later or please go to https://www,dell.com/support/osrcovery for immediate support)

I guess this is a new bug in their OS tools and there is no viable solution for it, at least for now.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Best,

Jay

Same Machine G15 1550 and same problem.

Rick.

UPDATE=RESOLVED- downloaded Support Assist and ran the 9 updates identified. The updates have cleared up the choppy video issues.

YUP, same issue. Absolutely disappointing. A failure at the worst possible time.

I have exactly the same issue on an Inspiron 3891... Recovery tool downloads 2 contents but then shows the same error message.

I have installed a new 2280 M.2 NVMe (after updating my BIOS to the latest version) and was trying to install Windows 11 on it. I still have my Windows 11 on the SATA disk that is still plugged to the system - I will try disabling the SATA disk to make sure it is not creating a side effect.

I wish Dell would admit that this is not a [problem that the customer can solve. From the moment that you press Start-F12 the only choice you have is whether or not to back up your files, and the safe choice is not to back them up.  (They probably never existed or are already gone anyway.)

The only real question is whether the problem is due to Dell's servers being overloaded or is a flaw in the recovery procedure itself.  The fact that the moment of death varies suggests that overloaded servers are the cause,  But if that's the case, then the procedure should just keep trying.

[New Update] - This may be due to the BIOS update. I am not 100% sure but once you update your BIOS and try to reset everything to factory defaults it may throw an error.

Dell hasn't updated about this and I think it has something to do with authentication after the update.

If any of you haven't updated BIOS and are still getting this error, then please do share.

I haven't (knowingly) updated the BIOS: mine is straight out of the box.

Hi,

Also new G15 5515 and had the same problem, ended up at the "We are missing some of your system details needed to finish the restore when trying to use the Dell OS recovery tool.

What helped us was instead of using Dell OS recovery tool, we found Microsoft system reset (Hint: press F12 during boot to get into the BIOS menu, when the options page is shown instead click the three dots in upper right corner and select system reset (or something similar) this will take you to Microsoft reset menu, which managed to reset back to Windows 11 for me.

Did you ever solve your issue, I gave up using the recovery tools/partition.  This was a gift to someone in my family who setup a MS outlook email, then promptly forgot their password.  Impossible to recover so now we are trying to restore to factory defaults, and get the same message.

Ive never had a computer / worked on a computer (and Ive worked on thousands) that the recovery partition was corrupt or wouldnt work.

This makes Dell look really bad.  Im hopeful that creating a USB recovery will work.  Otherwise I'm likely going to box this up, ship it back and get an Asus gaming laptop instead.

I think it is a flaw in their entire garbage process. I went into the bios and disabled this dell recovery support assist, rebooted and it took me to a new screen to download the new version.  Once I was in the new version I got alot further ahead, but after about 30 minutes received the same message.

I tried the windows recovery as someone suggested, and it takes you back to the dell recovery.

Can you be clearer about what you did?  I don't get "three dots" on the BIOS Setup screen and can't find the System Reset option in the screen I do get.
