Inspiron 15 5000 series not charging with correct Dell charger

Inspiron 15 5000 not charging
I have a Dell charger that Dell recomended for this laptop, updated BIOS, made sure everything is plugged in a million times, there is no damage to the cord, indicator light is on for the adapter, it is plugged all the way in, but yet the charging indicator light on the laptop will not stay on for more than about 2 seconds before turning off again. I have even went as far as to buy a second $60 cord which worked for about a week before my laptop stopped recognizing it, and it says 'Plugged in, not charging'. I have gotten it to charge on a few occasions by fiddling with the cord for an hour before it decides to randomly start charging ( and no, the spot where the computer starts to charge is never the same). At this point I am starting to give up on the laptop because all Dell has seemed to tell me when I have contacted them is that it is my fault and from what I have read other customers are having the same experience. When I look at the chargin port in the computer, it looks a little weird (part of the main plastic thing inside the port seems to be off but I don't know if it is supposed to be like that and it was like that when I got it). I am probably not going to buy from Dell again if they continue to ignore the problem of thousands of customers and say that it is the customer's fault when they have done nothing wrong.

I will share what worked for me.

I was having same issue, only charges for like a second.

When the laptop is powered off it will charge as seen by LED in the front. As soon as I turn it on it stops again. Checking BIOS with F2 option, I can see AC adapter is not detected. When I plug it in it shows 65W for like a second, then back to not detected.

Tried a different charger same issue.

When the laptop was off, I reseated the battery by taking it out and putting it back in. I may have blown at the contacts from old Atari habits lol.

Anyway, now it's working fine.

I am not at all sure why I should have to bend-over backwards to get my computer to fully function as it should. I relocated my home shortly after purchasing this Dell computer, and when I unpacked the system a few weeks later, I thought that I somehow misplaced the correct charger because the computer would not hold a charge. I purchased another charger for some $63, to no avail. I am extremely disappointed in Dell, and will not ever purchase another Dell product. Dell should be ashamed of themselves, they should have a recall or something to provide their customer with product satisfaction. How very disappointing!

There are a few things you can try to get your Inspiron 15 5000 charging again with the Dell charger:

Basic Checks:

  1. Confirm connection: Double-check that the charger is securely plugged into both the outlet and the laptop's charging port.
  2. Inspect for damage: Look for any physical damage to the charger cable or the charging port on your laptop.

Further Troubleshooting:

  1. Power cycle: Turn off your laptop completely, unplug the charger, remove the battery (if possible for your model), hold down the power button for 30 seconds, put the battery back in (if applicable), and then plug the charger back in and restart the laptop.
  2. Run troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter for power issues. Try running this to see if it can detect and fix the problem.
  3. Update drivers: Outdated drivers can sometimes cause charging issues. Check for updates for your battery and power adapter drivers.
