Smartbyte reinstalls itself?! How to make it stop?

Hi, I was reading alot about how Smartbyte would slow your connection down and sure enough I did notice it. After removing it my connection speed was restored to full speed. About a month or so later ITS BACK. I have read about the program randomly reinstalling and sure enough it has happened to me. So after I noticed it I removed the program and was happy. Well fast forward to today and ITS BACK AGAIN. I looked at the install date and it apparently installed yesterday. Which one of dells applications is install Smartbyte? Its a junk application that I DON'T WANT.

The ways mentioned are probably the most likely, although I have seen some drivers pushed through Windows update.

Since it is normally an optional driver, maybe it still has a footprint on your system after it is uninstalled.  Such things as a folder in the Program Data folder.  But you might search for it to see if anything is still on your system.  Look for SmartByte or RivetNetworks.

I suppose if you wanted, you could check the registry..  But if you change anything there, you might mess up your system.  I have one system I installed it on so I will allow the Dell Update to see if it finds it again.

Is it possible it’s coming through via Dell Update or Dell SupportAssist?

It's forced with the Dell updates, for what reason I don't know as all it does is spike your cpu usage and completely messes up all your audio. As soon as I finish a Dell update these days, the first thing I do is go and uninstall it.

Hey guys,

Official SmartByte support here.

SmartByte should not reinstall itself after it is uninstalled. We see reports of this, however. If you find that SmartByte reinstalls itself after you uninstall it, please contact us here - http://support.rivetnetworks.com/submit-a-ticket/ - so that we can get some information on you that will help us find the cause of it reinstalling. We believe that SmartByte when updated and used with a current network adapter driver, will improve your experience. However, we do not want users to feel like it is forced upon them!

Are you aware that Smartbyte also causes Outlook to fail when sending?

I had to explain this to Microsoft! And after getting Dell to completely uninstall it, it reappeared again (and made my Outlook fail).

Hello, I have the same problem.

I uninstalled several times Smartbyte since I have my new notebook, and it always is back. Last time I used Revo Uninstaller (for a more complete uninstalling) but I have Smartbyte again.

Dell Udates and Support Service are disabled.

Any suggeston?

Thank you.

The Rivet Networks rep. told me you could enter Smartbyte.exe in a run box and it would start a User Interface for SmartByte.  That does not seem to be the case and you would think he would know.

I will ask again, does anyone with this SmartByte reinstalling issue, have the Dell Cinema?  Smartbyte is available through the Windows Store and may be coming back that way.

There are also a couple of versions of a Dell Update utility.  These are available from the systems download site so you might check if you have any of those installed.  There is even a plug-in for the SupportAssist utility.  Check the info as to whether the update utility is compatible with your version of Win 10..

I have not seen SmartByte stop any Outlook traffic but I do have the Killer Control Panel on one system using a Killer Wireless 1550 and it does show which apps are being effected.

Thanks, Saltgrass, for your answer.
I don't have Dell Cinema and I never took anything from Windows store.
About Dell Update and SupportAssist, they are installed on my notebook but I disabled them by this way:

through Task Scheduler:
Dell SupportAssistAgent Auto Update: disabled

through services.msc:
Dell SupportAssist: disabled

@ Anthony of RivetNetworks: the submit-a-ticket link you posted some days ago, doesn't work.

TWO Solutions (Clean 10mins & Dirty 1min) then a hate rant for rivet and their Smart[Dumb]Byte

yes open Microsoft store. top left button [...] then settings. turn of auto updates. then click start and type services and use open as admin and disable both rivet ap select.... and rivet dynam.... and both SmartByte network... and SmartByte analyt.... and thats it .

(a quick 5 sec fix is task manager find raps.exe open file location rename to anything else

then end task raps.exe - go back to file and open in text editor thats not actually notepad and add a character anywhere into file to corrupt it. save corruption and return the file name back to raps.exe)- this works without popup errors and stops all SmartByte behavior upon rebooting. since dell app delivery doesn't do file integrity checks to install programs in the background the presence of the filename alone will stop a reinstall and corruption stops the programs and services running...

its not defamation if its stopping bad things and rivet can s it and f off cause they have no right being a part of any OS delivery service -- try debugging ur s u stuppido -- dell is ace tho(best systems delivery tailored to keep you up-to date and ported correctly - great service followups too )
