So, I have had this pc for just over a year (I bought it after I went back to school last year), and now thanks to the bios update it no longer works. I have to restart it with the power button several times just to be able to login. Then non of my apps or anything else works, including trying to get to the power settings. Thankfully I finished my last final for this semester right before I allowed the update. So, now I have a $600 paper weight. Thank you so much for screwing up my pc!

Can you not flash the bios back to previous version via any DELL utility in the bios itself?

I don't know but I would have thought something would be provided for 'worst case scenarios'

I know have my new TB16 installed and working. The only physical difference from the Tb15 observable from the outside is the venting as shown in the new user manual. I only received the dock itself and reused the original power supply. I was required to send back the old dock. So far no obvious performance differences.

For those experiencing different warrantee policies I noted that support depends on if the dock was purchased with a system. From Dell: "If purchased as a tied laptop accessory the dock shares the system warranty. If purchased APOS, 1 yr warranty."

phlegm123 could you confirm what I heard from the service technician that TB16 is still labelled (on the back and in their internal systems) as TB15 but has a different revision number (A01, while TB15 has A00). I have this number on lower right corner on the bottom of the device.

Hey Wiktork, while I can't confirm the interior, the dock is definitely labelled TB16 and has a new part number. The old TB15 PPID had a part number of 0J00G9 while the new one is 00J5C6.

Okay thanks! I don't see PPIDs that you've mentioned anywhere on my TB15 but there is A00 marker. One way or another mine is going back for a full refund and when I'l see TB16 in stores I'm planning to try it out.

phlegm123 could you post your comparison TB15/TB16 after a month of usage? I'd be interested if it stays stable :)

I received my TB16 yesterday. Only visual difference are two cooling vents. I am going to try it this week and will report back.

It would be really interesting if somebody with a "junk" TB15 could do a teardown and post the images on Imgur or iFixIt and if somebody gets brave and does the same with the TB16 it would be fascinating to see the differences and whether it is new chips or just a couple extra fans. I'd imagine for better compatibility they should be using new chips with better stability/support.

I received my TB16 3 days ago, plugged in my 2 HD 24" monitors, 1 is HDMI the other is miniport, Backup Drive, USB Printer, 2 other USB devices. Been running for 3 days, perfect performance so far. Fan is nice and quiet. Laptop turns on without opening. Latop fine is silent. We'll see how dell responds to getting back a TB 15 with 20 cooling holes drilled through the case and a fan glued to it, LOL!!!

I have eight of these *** things, not one of them has a valid service tag or express service number on them........  I tried calling in and support sent me right over to the returns department but they could not validate them either, I was put on hold and disconnected.  Have an email out to them now so here is hoping

I used the service tag for the computer the dock was used on.

I used the email support and my replacement TB16 is on the way.

I am using two Dell U2414H monitors with the dock. I guess they have a firmware update that needs to be done to fix an issue with them going into power saving mode. I'm also getting both of them replaced. I even purchased through Amazon and they are going to handle it. I didn't ask about the monitors, they initiated after I gave them details of my setup.

Hoping this finally takes care of my year worth of problems.

I have service tag on mine but they still asked for a number printed on invoice (starting with "171") and did not bother with service tags.

Hi xKloc,

How did you find the entry of email support? I'm using the US site and the only support portal I can find is the online chat one where they will keep transferring you back and forth and saying they can't do anything.

I stumbled across the instructions for the TB16 at downloads.dell.com/.../dell-thunderbolt-dock-tb16_user's guide_en-us.pdf. Unlike most of the TB16 information, it's not a doctored version of the TB15 material, but much more useful than anything that came with the earlier unit. Myabe Dell are serious this time.
