Hey guys,

I finally think all my issues are resolved.

Just to recap my setup, I have an XPS 15 9550 with a TB16 (replaced by dell from a TB15) and dual U2414H monitors connected by a USB-C to DisplayPort cable in a daisy chain.

My issue is when I connect the TB15/16 to the laptop, the dock will start a cycle of dropping and reconnecting. My monitors will go into power saving mode and come back up shortly after. The timeframe between these cycles depended upon the wireless power output.

Replacing the TB15 with the TB16 did not solve anything, turning off my wireless card was the only was to obtain some stability.

After speaking with Dell Support, and telling them about the wireless card issue. They spent a few days and figured out that if they replace the Broadcom wireless with an intel wireless card—the issue does not occur.

They setup a technician to come out and replace the card. I could have done it myself, but they offered. They sent me an Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 card to replace the Broadcom.

After replacing the wireless card, I've been using the dock for 2 days at full power output with no drops.

I have not tested the TB16 yet, I plan to tomorrow.  I just wanted to chime in and say that like @xKloc I was also sent a replacement wireless card for my XPS 13 9350.  I plan to put the TB16 through its paces tomorrow and will be using every single port on it, including usb-c hub, and a USB 3.0 to DP (this may not work due to DisplayLink limitations, but I will try anyway.)

By the way is anyone planning to test LG UltraFine 5K Display as a dock (instead of TB15/16)? Seems like it could be a good replacement (in case you also need 5K display that is ;)).

Any idea when the TB16 is going to be officially released? When it's coming to stores?

I just wanted to report back...I am currently using  my XPS 13 connected to a TB16 dock with NO issues.  I have GB Ethernet, 3 1080P monitors (1 via a USB 3 to DP adapter), webcam, USB-C hub, external HD, external SATA drive reader, and my PBX phone connected.  I am also still utilizing the built in monitor and using Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, keypad, and headphones.  The performance of the TB16 compared to the TB15 is night and day.  I also have not done ANYTHING to make it work, such as the crazy install directions we had to go by for the TB15.  The TB16 just works.

I will report back again in a few weeks after I have really put it through its paces but so far this is the best dock, of many, that I have tried.

Where can I get my hands on a TB16? I have a conference in 2 weeks where I'll need to utilize this and need one ASAP. TB15 dock isn't working at all.

Received my TB16 this morning. Been using it with the Broadcom wireless with airplane mode off  and so far it is working perfectly, no USB device or wired LAN disconnections, no monitor flickering, nothing *touch wood*.

Will keep testing but so far so good.

Lol, first full disconnection after around 4 hours. Put airplane mode on, will see how it goes... /sigh. Might have to push to get the Broadcom WiFi replaced with Intel.

So is the consensus here that the Broadcom wireless card is incompatible with the TB15/TB16 dock?

Like others, I have had zero drops with the dock (connected to monitor, Ethernet and a bunch of USB devices) once I took to disabling the wireless card when my XPS13 is connected to the dock. I have opened a warranty support ticket with Dell requesting replacement of my 'defective' wireless card.

But I am curious if anyone of an engineering bent has an actual theory about what is going wrong with these docks.

Received my TB16 today. Precision 7710 connected to two P2715Q monitors. One of the monitors that is connected to the mDP port on the dock has random disconnects where the screen goes black for about 1 second and comes back. At other times, both monitors go black for a split second. At the same time the audio cuts off because I am using the audio through display port and output via the 3.5mm jack on the monitor. Brand new monitor that I received today. Revision A03, manufacturer December 2016 and I am using the mDP to DP cable that came with the monitor.

Edit: After further testing this issue is not related to the TB16 dock, as it is also occurring when plugging the monitors directly into the 7710.

I also received my replacement TB16 few days ago and I also noticed my Dell W3415U monitor that's connected to the HDMI out on TB16 which is connected to my Dell XPS 15 9550 go blank and come back after few seconds. Sometime this happens couple times in a day and sometime I've seen it happen like every 5 minutes for period of time and it would just stop doing it. I didn't have this particular issue with the TB15 that I replaced so I'm assuming there is some thing with the TB16. I really hope this isn't another hardware defect on TB16!

Please let me know if anyone has found a fix for this.

>go blank and come back after few seconds.

That is pretty much the ONLY thing my TB15 does, blink the monitor on and off. Unless I disable the wireless card in the Device Manager, in which case it works fine. I am suprprised your old TB15 didn't do that; it seems like that was the most common problem with them. I am disappointed to hear that it is still a problem, since I have a TB16 replacement coming tomorrow for my defective TB15...

I got home yesterday and saw a package on my doorstep.   When I picked it up, my jaw dropped: a package from Dell!   Here's why I was so surprised - I was fumbling around and trying to start an exchange request for the TB15->TB16.  I entered the service code and the express service code....nothing was valid.   Explored some tech support paths, but concluded that the only thing that might work was to pay for premium support.  I was about to price it out to see if that would be cheaper or if I should eat the TB15 cost when the package arrived.

There was no Email notification.  They may be replacing all TB15s now.   If you ever bought a TB15 and haven't had it exchanged yet, be sure your Dell shipping address for the account has been updated if you have moved since then.
