Dell inspiron 15r se 7520 switchable graphics problem

Hello,

I just got a laptop Inspiron 15R SE 7520 and I'm having some graphic card issue. Technically I was suppose to have the AMD graphic card working, but when I look at the configurations I see 2 video cards: One that is an Intel HD integrated card and the AMD. The one that it's working is the Intel. How do I make the AMD work instead?

Thanks,

Shanthosh

I have to say I am very frustrated at this point.  I have had Dell Technical Support update me to the latest drivers.  I tried cat but those didn't work for me.  I have the AMD driver.  But still Skyrim runs on Intel HD.  I paid money to get an AMD Radeon graphics card and I can't use it.  And Dell support on this forum just keeps repeating the same instructions which don't even match the options available to me on the latest AMD driver software.  So I spent the money for the video card upgrade and I'm playing Skyrim on the very lowest settings.  Frustrating!

That's no good - when I run the latest AMD driver which I just had Dell Technical Support install I don't see those options. I have set the following specific applications to high performance: steam.exe, skyrimlauncher.exe, and tesv.exe.  All of them are setup correctly.  When I run Steam and launch Skyrim it does not recognize the AMD video card.

What I'm referring to above is the following steps:

"To use AMD Switchable Graphics, please follow the steps provided below:

1. Click the “Start” button and select “Programs.”

2. Click “Catalyst Control Center.”

3. Click “Power” and select “Switchable Graphics.”

4. Choose an application from the list or browse and select an application and assign the appropriate GPU.

5. If you want to permanently turn on the AMD Switchable Graphics, Click on “Power” tab and then on “Switchable Graphics Method.”

6. Check “Select the graphics processor manually or based on power source”

7. Click on “High-performance GPU” and click “Apply.”

Please reply to this message if you need further assistance."

Thank you for trying to help.  I will try it.

That's because more then likely the Dell Technical Support person installed what they consider their latest drivers - which they are not, their version is so old it has MOLD growing on them.

Honestly - do as those on here have stated.  Get the Leshcat Drivers - Get the manual - read the manual, then read the manual again, and then again until you fully understand the procedure that you need to do to successfully remove the Dell AMD and INTEL Drivers and then Install the Leshcat drivers.

Can't stress that you must follow the directions completely, you need to use other tools to remove the older drivers components successfully doing it via Windows Driver Removal leaves remnants behind that will conflict and cause problems.  You need to get the system to a clean state where it thinks it has generic VGA drivers.

Now, if you read thru this thread you can see that people with your EXACT same laptop has it working using the Leshcat drivers - so theoretically if you can follow directions you to will have a working laptop that you can enjoy.

Here's where you need to go to get everything that you need.

Leshcat 13.4 WHQL Drivers are here

Manual here - Read it, Read it again. and then just to be sure Read it one more time. It's not overly complex but you need to follow the steps exactly as stated.

The Mentioned "Driver Fusion" Tool to ensure every bit of the drivers are deleted is here download the FREE version no need to use the paid Pro Version.

Cheers

I've not had any problems with my 7250 SE until today, I've played through skyrim, mass effect 3 (not like it was a demanding game) and bioshock infinite and a few others with good performance, better than any pc I've ever built, been a few years though lol.

But today I installed far cry 3 and I have transparent back boxes over buildings and some other textures, a quick loogle came to ubisoft's far cry website which said it was caused by the switchable graphics specifically that dxdiag problem where it only appears as a hd4000 to programs and that causes some problem possibly related only to farcry3 and how it reads into directx, and their solution was to FN-F7 to switch graphics which I obviously can't do becuase this isn't an alienware which has side by side displayport lines that can be hardware switched (and lol you will notice F7 is the only blank function key on our laptops) -which arguably dell or whoever designed the passthrough system should have done but 'm sure somewhere there was an engineer convinced this would save money.

I don't care at this point.  I understand completely how this works I am a techie.  All I want to know is has anyone used the Leshcat driver and played Far Cry 3 and does not have the black boxes?  I'm not going to waste my time doing another fresh triple boot install just to get far cry 3 to still not work if it is a Far Cry 3 only problem.  Currently on 7250 triple boot Linux Mint/Win7/Win8 with the stock april 2013 dell  combo video drivers with the AMD mobility 12.6b2 drivers plopped right on top (no problems for me till now, except for the one time i let windows update update the intel hd chip right after I bought the laptop)

Or maybe I have't been getting good performance this whole time, but I played skyrim through at max settings with special visual mods at 1080p no problem.

Or on the other hand has anyone gotten farcry 3 to work with just the factory driver? I only played through skyrim on that now that I remember....

yeah im half way through far cry 3 and have not encountered any problems infact i am quite impressed how good it looks im running it at high in 720p mode which i found better than the full hd on medium

am using the leshcat  13.4 beta 2 driver which is the most stable and fastest out of all the drivers i have found .

you dont need to do a full reinstall just get the leshcats and driver fusion then follow the manual

make sure though you disable windows updates and driver instalation updates to stop them getting borked with another ms update though

infact i have not come across a game i cant play decent yet   currentley also playing metro last light

Yeah, after reading up on it a little more the graphics corruption in farcry 3 is cause by exactly what I did, laying the 13.6betas over the stock drivers, I will use uninstall all driver fusion and leshcat driver and report back.  I'm really not big on uninstalling drivers, I've always had a scorched earth policy of reformat reinstall after major driver issues I've caused from out of order  or improper driver installations, which has served me well though time consuming for non computer nerds.  But these patterns were established in the 90s so maybe its time form me to change my ways.
