How to install Windows 8 video/graphics drivers for an Inspiron 6000/6400/E1505/8600/9100/9200/9300/9400/E1705 Latitude D610/D810 or Inspiron XPS notebook system

There is no dedicated Windows 8 Driver for the ATI Mobility X300/X600/X1300/X1400 graphics cards but I have documented that the Windows Vista Driver R153383.exe will install and work reliably in Microsoft Windows8.

The steps for installation are listed below:

  1. Download the R153383.exe drvier from: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=R153383 and extract the compressed files, then cancel the automatic installation of the driver (It crashed out on me when I ran the install)
  2. From The Style UI interface, move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner, and Right Click, select Device Manager from the pop-up menu.
  3. Click the arrow next to Display Adapter, Microsoft Basic Display should be listed.
  4. Right Click the Microsoft Basic Display and click Update Driver, then select Browse My Computer ...., then Click Let Me Pick From a List ....
  5. Click the HAVE DISK Button in the Install from Disk Window, browse to the C:\Dell\Drivers\R153383\Packages\Driver\Display\LH_INF folder and click CL_45540.inf then Click Open and OK to install the driver.

I have completed this process on both an Inspiron E1505/6400 and Inspiron 6000 and both systems are working fine, even power management seems to function well.

Regretfully your excellent instructions do not work on my Dell D610 running Windows 8.  All goes as forecast until at the end a message is displayed 'The driver does nor support this version of Windows'

What do you suggest next?

Thank you.  This was one of the clearest, accurate, easy to follow "fixes" I have ever employed for a difficult scenario.:emotion-4:

It is best answer. Thank you natakuc4. With this solution, resolved my problem in Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit that installed on Dell Inspiron 6400 with ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 Display Adapter. I downloaded it's driver from this link: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/ScopedViewInline.aspx?updateid=f28785d2-d0ec-4b3e-b27c-02c1b1ff0e23 - Add to Basket And I installed it to solve my problem. <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy>

Hello  dageezerus, Donald Kempf.

I would like to thank You for this post. It helped me greatly. I recently installed Windows 8.1 Home Edition, 32 Bit, on my

Dell Inspiron 6400

Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

After the installation of Windows 8.1 I could not Install the Driver for the Video Card. It was giving me the Error message. (See Figure 1.)

I started to look for the solution Online for around 3 or so Hours without Success !!!!!!!! Got seriously frustrated. Then I found Your post !!!!!!!!!

It worked right from the first (1.) Step !!!!!!!!!

I Downloaded the R153383.exe Driver, extracted the compressed files and DID NOT CANCEL the automatic installation of the driver, just to see WHAT HAPPENS. (It DID NOT crash !!!!!!!) The Installation completed SUCCESSFULLY !!!!!!!!

Thank You very much for the Info and Instructions !!!!!!!

Have a Wonderful Day !!!!!!!!!

This precious guidance! Except to say that the link is to the mobile version of this GPU, but it serves perfectly to have a desktop with this GPU, simply use the link www.dell.com/.../19 / Drivers / DriversDetails? DriverID = 6DM6P, which has a latest update until aversion mobile, although may not be equivalent.

Hug to everyone!

Hello,

I just performed this procedure on a Windows 10 upgraded Inspiron 6400. I used The Media Creator to do the Windows 10 upgrade. It works fine.

Thanks!
