Inspiron 17R N7010 doesn't even turn on.

Hi there, I have a Inspiron 17R N7010 laptop with an i5 processor that was bought back in Dec. 2010, so it's almost a year and a half old and obviously out of warranty. Anyway, thing was working pretty well...up until Friday. Now, I can't even get it to turn on. I've tried, pressing the power button, holding the power button, holding the Fn key and then pressing the power button, holding the Fn key and then holding the power button, taking the battery out and trying all those things, having it unplugged and trying all those things, nothing. The only kind of activity I can get from the laptop is that every time I plug in the AC adapter, the right LED light will go on for about a second and then go off. The middle and left LED light's do nothing.

I brought it down to Geek Squad to get some input and they think the motherboard is shot. You guys have any input/idea's and possibly a guestimate on how much it would cost to repair?

Thanks

At this point I have no idea what to do. Now that I have it back turning on no matter what I do it will not install any operating system. It blue screens every time leaving a BAD HDD code. I've tried a dozen brand new out of the box hard drives and it still gives this error which is just BS in my opinion. I won't be buying anything Dell ever again. Not even brand new solid state hard drives were getting anywhere.

By the way those lights blink as you described I'm sorry to say that yes your motherboard is probably smoked but it could also be a power supply problem inside the laptop. I've never personally taken this one apart but the person who took mine apart told me that inside there is a power wire / supply set up that goes from where you plug it in from the charger then runs directly to the motherboard. I've never seen anything like this. I've only seen that wire itself but not with anything else connected to it having to do with the power supply or any fuses. 99.9% of the time its just a wire you pull out of the motherboard that runs through some plastic holders and the opposite end of the motherboard has the charger plug on it. I have repaired a few laptops in the past that have had bad charging ports on that wire. Because over time after plugging the charger in and out in and out it starts to wear out or wiggle loose and then you lose connection. I would try replacing that power lead wire and try a different charger that you know works before taking it to anyone to repair. Motherboards for this model that are new are usually at least $140 and I would charge at least $100 to put it in so imagine what Best buy would charge. Probably $350 easy.

Jason,

My inspiron 17 n7010 after being plugged into its ac adapter shows a washed out screen with some vertical and horizontal lines before reaching bios screen. It initially gave me a two beep beep code so I reseaTed the RAM but that changed nothing. I cntrl alt dLt it and also tamper with f10 and f12 which is visibly doing something but the display is still washed out and impossible to read..

Any ideas?
