Latitude E6500, integrated Webcam and Windows 7 32-bit

Hi all!

I am using a Dell Latitude E6500 with an integrated webcam which originally was running with Win XP. Now I updated to Windows 7 32-bit, because I am using some applications which are not compatible to the 64-bit version.

Unfortunately a cannot find a driver for the integrated webcam and Windows 7 32-bit. I find drivers for WinXP, Vista and Win7 64-bit - but not for the 32-bit version.

Can anyone help me please? Does anyone know a solution or work-around?

Any help or recommendation is appreciated!

Thanks & regards,

Markus

Markus,

NOT sure which webcam model was installed on your computer. Using Internet Explorer, try going to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number. Then look under mouse and keyboards. There you'll find the webcam drivers. You can try installing the drivers in the Compatibility mode

Windows 7 has the drivers for some webcams.

Hi Rick,

the webcam is shown in the device manager -> imaging devices as "USB Camera" without a yellow mark. Windows says the driver is up-to-date.

But testwebcam.com just shows a black picture - so obviously it does not work.

The laptop was installed by our IT department but I would assume that they installed all the chipset drivers etc.

Executing the webcam setups for vista or xp fails even though I use the compatibility mode.

I guess the problem is, that there just is no (compatible) driver for win7 32-bit... I am despairing...

Thanks!

Markus

Hi Rick,

thanks a lot for your answer!

I tried finding the driver with the service tag but there is none for webcam win7 32-bit.

I also tried to execute the setup for vista with compatibility mode. This also did not work.

Any other suggestions?

Best regards,

Markus

Markus,

Does it show iup in the device manager under Imaging devices? Any yellow exclaimination marks and red x's

Try...

Test Webcam and see if it works.

Just thinking...

When you installed Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) did you install
the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not
the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How
to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

If you cannot find Windows 7 drivers, then try using the Vista (or
XP) 32-bit drivers, for Windows 7 32-bit of the Vista (or XP) 64-bit
drivers for Windows 7 64-bit and install the drivers in the
Compatibility
mode

Markus,

Try downloading and installing Dell Webcam Central This is an older version but after it's installed, then click on the ?, then click on check for software update. Since Dell Webcam Central was made by Creative Labs, and so was your webcam, the drivers I was told were with the software.

Markus,

Do you have Fast Access Facial Recgnition Software installed?

Do you have the latest version of Skype installed?

What do you see on Skype when you click on tools, options video options?

Hi Rick,

thanks a lot for your help!

I installed and updated the software. But it cannot access the camera. It tells me to close "the other video streaming software" and that the camera cannot be accessed. But there is no other software running...

BTW: the webcam is still shown as "USB Camera" in the device manager. The installation of the webcam software did not change the driver. I also tried to let windows search the webcam software directory for a driver but it keeps the windows driver.

Do you have any idea what could "block" the webcam? I would guess it is the driver not working correctly, but I just cannot change it... I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times now but it did not help.

Thanks & best regards,

Markus

Hi Rick,

I do not have Fast Access Facial Recgnition Software installed. But when I start Skype (Video settings) it tells me: "Can't start video. Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam." - so this might be the same problem as in the Dell Webcam Central software. I browsed through the process monitor but I cannot find any process that might be blocking the webcam... It cannot be Windows itself, can it?

Thanks!

Markus

Markus,

Open Skype, click on video settings. You should see a dropdown menu. What are your options there? I have FA Virtual Cam(Fast Access)

Hi Rick,

I do not have a drop down menu there because I only have one camera which is therefore automatically selected.

Markus,

Do you have any Instant Messengers loading at startup, like Windows Live, AIM or Yahoo?

I was told that Windows 7 should have the drivers for the webcam. Is this 32-bit or 64-bit?

Make a system restore point. Windows 7 should make one each time you restart your computer.

Start, control panel, device manager, imaging devices.

Right click on the integreted webcam, left click uninstall, then restart your computer. Windows 7 will find the webcam when you log in to an unrestricted account and install it. See if it works then.

Hi Rick,

thanks again for all your help!!

I have Windows 7, 32-bit. And I have no instant messenger software installed (except skype - but skype does not launch at system start-up).

I tried the uninstall-reinstall-thing with reboot but the webcam was reinstalled with the same "USB Camera" driver as before. Nothing changed...

Best regards,

Markus

Start, control panel, device manager, imaging devices. Doble click on your Integretated webcam.

Please list the manufacturer and driversion number.

Also open Dell Webcam Ventral and click on the ?, about Dell Webcam Central. Tell me which version you have installed.

Hi Rick

sorry, but my WIndows is in German language. The manufacturer is listed as Microsoft. What's the "driversion number"?

The driver provider is also Microsoft, driver version is 6.1.7601.17514, driver date is June, 21st 2006 (seems quite old to me...).

The Dell Webcam Central version is 1.40.35.

Thanks & best regards,

Markus
