Quickset button - Missing function
Hello, dear readers... I hope someone can help me with that little problem.
I recently got my new laptop (Inspiron 17R SE - 7720) and I decided to reinstall the whole OS, because it worked relatively slowly and looked a little overcrowded, anyway. There were some more reasons, but that's not the point.
All drivers have been downloaded and installed. I also updated the BIOS to the latest version. And unfortunately i discoverd very little issue with Quickset.
The laptop has 3 special buttons in the top right corner. The left one, which actually lauches the mobility center / Quickset, doesn't work anymore.
I tried several versions of Quickset and even reinstalling Windows didn't solve the problem.
After hours of investigation I wasn't able to find anything, which fixed it. Maybe, there is a way by editing the registry.
I know my request so unnecessary but it's simply annoying me.
Best regards,
Miguel

@Dell-Royan S
Now that the Quickset driver has been tested by a select few, when will the driver be provided in the Support Drivers page for the Inspiron 7720 under Applications?

Royan,
Thanks for the link. Just curious, how many test samples do you need before you guys at Dell decide that it is ready for prime time release on the Drivers webpage? Just trying to figure out a timeline of when these drivers might go live for download for those that are not following this thread and have been wondering about this issue.

The are working on it as we speak, no ETA. I will put this up as a sticky so others are aware of it.
Thank you.

Hi Royan, thank you for the download link, un-installed the old Quickset and installed your new version, re-booted and everything is working perfectly. Thanks again for all your assistance and prompt replies, I am very impressed by the service.
Regards,
Colin.

Did you try uninstalling the old quickset before installing the new one.

@FocusMSP
You have BIOS A08 installed correct? Just want to make sure you are at the right configuration. If you still have BIOS A03 installed, the old Quickset driver should work. I assume the "music" and "launch program" buttons still work but not the "gears" quickset button?

Yes I did. I even uninstalled, rebooted, install, rebooted. Still nothing.

Correct. Just the gears button does not work. I will explain what changes I have done to the laptop in case it makes a difference. Bios is at A08. I have removed the 32gb msata and replaced it with a mushkin 120gb model. I have an ocz vertex 3 max iops ssd in slot one that was cloned from the original hard drive. I have a 750gb wd black in slot 2 for data, which my users folders reside as well.
I installed 16gb mushkin ram in the laptop as well. I reconfigured the intel rapid storage manager as follows. The 120gb msata now has a 18.9GB partition to accelerate the wd black, and a 16gb partition for hibernation file. The remaining space is a simple volume.

You say you sent a link to a new driver that is not listed in the support section, how does one get this driver link?

I have a new 17R Special Edition. It is "new" but I got it from Dell Outlet so it is a refurb. My Windows Mobility hot key does not work and this thread is a few months old but I just found it while researching this. The other two hot keys do work. I am not too excited about uninstalling and reinstalling a Quickset download that has not yet been officially released by Dell just for this hot key fix when the "Windows X" key combination is just as easy to use without messing with an uninstall and a reinstall.
If that is all that the new Quickset download is needed for then as long as everything that is supposed to work does work I can live without the Mobility hot key button. So what should I test out with my current Quickset to make sure that everything that is supposed to work is working other than the Mobility hot key? Thank you for any replies to come.
