Service Tag in DSOE Does Not Match the Current System

Hi

Around 60% of the time when I turn on my new Dell XPS 15 laptop, I receive this error message, attached. The actual error message reads 'Service Tag in DSOE Does Not Match the Current System'

I have searched Google and the Dell forums to no avail. There does not seem to be any reference to the subject matter anywhere, that I can see, anyway.

The only thing I can attribute it to, is an Acronis TI Home 2011 restore, as I wanted to check to see whether the image would actually work. NOTE: I did make Dell Restore DVD's first. :emotion-4:

Other than that, it's a beautiful laptop.

If anybody can shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

To Get this resolved.

1.  Reboot

2.  From Dell screen hit F2 to get into BIOS

3. In BIOS right arrow over to the Security tab

4. Highlight "Set security tag"

5.  Type in your tag when prompted (found printed on the bottom of your Dell)

6. Arrow over to Exit tab

7. "Save and Exit"

When you update bios you can encounter this.

Asset.com does not apply to systems that have the user enter the Tag in CMOS.

I have a XPS 15z and i have also been getting this error now ever since i got it.  I have been working with dell service team with no luck.  they tried flashing the bios and uninstalling the service center app from the pc.  still get this error.

i tried everything from the forum also with no luck.  asset.com doesnt work on 64bit systems.  the bios security tab doesn't have the option of the security code as explained in this thread.

Any other ideas.  frustrating.  Thanks

no security tag

i cant change any setting in the bios service tag on the main tab.  but it does have the correct service tag.

You can find metric screws in a hardware store or home depot that fit but they will cost $0.60 to $1.25  each.

Turn on the power to the system and press the key to enter the BIOS.

Move down to Service Tag and press Enter,

if there is no service tag listed there, try the following steps.

Turn on the power to the system and press the key to enter the BIOS.

Use the arrow keys to enter the Correct service tag. (SERIAL NUMBER is the same as Service tag)

When the service tag has been entered correctly, press the key.

Press the key again to save.

Press the key.

Use the arrow keys to highlight the Save/Exit button,

then press the key.

Not helpful. And neither is the other solution in relation to asset.com, marked as a suggested answer.  I have had this problem in several DELL systems and right now with two Inspiron 2310 systems.

Firstly, there is no option to change the Service Tag in the BIOS on these systems and in most laptops I have used.  If the Service Tag field is blank, then Asset.com may be able to put the Service Tag into BIOS, however the DSOE problem may still occur.

What I have noticed is that the issue may have something to do with the DELL Support program which has been updated to Version 3.  Recently I updated the DELL Support program and noticed the Service Tag shown in the Support Centre opening screen updated itself. When it did this the DSOE problem no longer occurred. People could try that and see what happens. Go to Support Center, update the program if prompted and see what is listed as the Service Tag. If it doesn't look right click on the Service Tag link and see if the Service Tag updates itself.

Unfortunately I've tried this on another system and it didn't work. I'm still trying to find the correct resolution. It might be helpful if DELL could tell us what DSOE actually means. Anyone from DELL ever read these?

Good luck.

I get this.

This version of asset.com is not compatible with the ver sion of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

Is there a 64 bit version?

I have the same issues with a brand new Dell Inspirion 620...Matter of fact I have several problems with it. Com Surrogate has stoped working, Microsoft run time errors. I would think that maybe I just got a Lemon, but not so....I bought a new Dell 620, after recieving these errors & eventually the BSOD 6 days after purchase, I exchanged it for this one. SAMETHING! I am startting to wonder if Dell knows how to build computers, Support is horrible they acctually had the tech tell me "I would also like to inform you that the warranty on your system has expired/valid on/till 03/17/2013" Dont they know its still 2012? I have been dealing with this crap for over a week now & they just keep telling me to do the same stuff over & over & over again, but NONE of it works. What a Joke!

I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT AN HP

Please DELL could you read this Forum thread. We don't know what DSOE refers to. Can you please explain what DSOE is/means and what is its relationship to the Service Tag. I have seven DELL computers at home and 5 of them are displaying this message; 3 Inspiron 2310s, an XPS-15z and an Adamo XPS.

What is the problem?

Service Tag in DSOE Does Not Match the Current System

Please help us out DELL or if there is anyone else with a useful contribution to make please do.

@ A Pile of Tile - as it happens I just replaced my DELL Studio 17 with a new HP DV7. Don't buy HP is my recommendation - I'm thinking of switching back to the Studio 17. If only there was an XPS 17z!!
